Description:

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse who focuses clinical practice on individuals at risk for developing and/or having a diagnosis of psychiatric disorders or mental health problems. The PMHNP provides a full range of primary mental health care services including bio-psycho-social assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health problems and psychiatric disorders. Treatment modalities may include medication management and/or psychotherapy. The PMHNP synthesizes theoretical, scientific, and clinical knowledge and exercises independent judgment in the management/delivery of service in accordance with established NEVHC, LARFPC, CHDP, MCH, CPSP, and other regulatory agency guidelines.

Reports to: Director of Adult Medicine and Director of Behavioral Health Services

Qualifications:

1. A Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university with a specialty in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing AND completion of an approved Adult, Child, or Family Nurse Practitioner program.
OR
Completion of an approved Master's level Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program issued by an accredited college or university.
2. Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) is preferred but not required.
3. Currently licensed by the state of CA Board of Registered Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
4. Currently certified by the State of CA as a Nurse Practitioner.
5. Two years clinical experience as a Registered Nurse, with a minimum of one year of experience in the clinical area assigned. Experiences must have been as a Registered Nurse within a United States Licensing Jurisdiction.
6. Must have or be eligible to receive a California state-issued medication Furnishing Number and United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) number upon completion of appropriate training.
7. Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification, in compliance with corporate CPR policy.
8. Fluency in English (speaks, read and write).
9. Fluency in Spanish (speak, translate, read and write) preferred
10.Thorough working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and contemporary general office practices and procedures.
11.Math skills sufficient to prepare routine spreadsheets, calculate/balance invoices/expense reports, and similar.
12.Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.), electronic health record systems, and database systems.
13.Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and others.
14.Very effective oral and written communications skills including public speaking experience.
15.Effective work organization skills.
16.Excellent leadership skills.
17.Ability to work effectively as a team player.
18.Ability to be flexible and work in a changing environment.
19.Sensitivity to the different cultures represented among members and staff.
20.Demonstrated ability to listen and communicate with others in a professional and caring manner including sensitivity with individuals from diverse cultures and lifestyles.
21.Demonstrated ability to set priorities for tasks to work effectively in spite of interruptions and under minimal supervision. Self-starter, reliable and dependable.
22.Demonstrated proficiency with the electronic health record database within three months of attending training session(s).
23.Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality about health care and other patient/client information.
24.Current California driver's license, appropriate insurance coverage and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC's insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).
