As a Sr. Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the transition and management of services/applications to production environments and have a deep focus on Java based applications, production operations, capacity planning and performance management. The role provides a mixture of team leadership and ownership as well as engineering. You will be challenged to solve complex technical problems with unique solutions, identify improvements and work on implementing your recommendations.

As a Sr. Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the transition and management of services/applications to production environments and have a deep focus on Java based applications, production operations, capacity planning and performance management. The role provides a mixture of team leadership and ownership as well as engineering. You will be challenged to solve complex technical problems with unique solutions, identify improvements and work on implementing your recommendations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in MIS, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field required
- 8+ years of experience in the role of a Software Engineer, Developer or similar including:
- Strong software development background in Java/J2EE Technologies
- Previous experience in a Team Lead/Formal Mentorship role over an Engineering team
- Proficiency in CI/CD as well as version control systems
- Any messaging broker such as Kafka, ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ
- Experience in Spring Boot, RestAPI's and Oracle stored procedures
Experience with any of these technologies is a plus
- Experience in NoSQL Databases, Cloud Native, Couchbase
- Experience with merchandising systems, especially Space Planning or Assortment Planning
- Familiarity with BigQuery, PHP and Python
- Designing and building cloud native applications in GCP using Cloud Run or GKE
- Participating in product team scrums
- Adhere to Agile methodology established by the project leadership.
- Maintain proper status of user stories
- Collaborate with scrum master in refinement sessions.
- Utilize JIRA, Agility or similar tools
- Gather complex business requirements and translate product and project needs into data models supporting long-term solutions
- Act as liaison with business partners; ability to present technical discussions with non-technical audience
- Document data requirements of product owners
- Build strategies for long term data utilization
- Ability to quickly troubleshoot critical production issues spanning applications/infrastructure and tune high volume applications
- Ensure alignment of programs and projects with the strategic AZ Information Roadmap and related strategies
- Recommend and evaluate new tools and methodologies as needed
- Working independently with limited supervision, and with other department personnel

- Collaborate with Development teams to create new and continuously improve products, including planning, testing, staging and deployment
- Develop new features, scaling, automation and self-healing processes for sites and systems
- Identify and Implement code/configuration changes to improve performance and reliability as necessary
- Implement effective 360 degree monitoring to ensure quick alerting of any problems in the echo system
- Advocate for top-notch design standards and lead process improvements in collaboration with architects and Application Engineers
- Collaborate and consult with the Merchandising Engineering team to help automate the end-to-end Operations of the applications/systems
- Delegate work to other less experienced engineers and provide coaching / mentorship
- Accurate work planning and execution; accurate project and time tracking
