Our Tuscaloosa County site is home to the production of Mercedes' luxury SUV models, including electric vehicles. Just down the road in Bibb County, MBUSI has launched the production of high-performance lithium-ion batteries. Purpose of the Position:
Under general supervision, this position supports shop operations with robot, vision, automation and equipment expertise to facilitate a safe and productive process in accordance with the Mercedes Production System (MPS)
Essential Functions:
Support Production Operations Team by being onsite/on call for robot, vision, automation and equipment- related issues such as program optimizations and breakdown support. Requires electrical, mechanical and programming capabilities
Responsible for creating new standards, establishing existing standards, and communicating current standards for Robotics & Vision topics
Responsible for evaluating or creating curriculum for advance training in Robotics & Vision
Lead for Robotics support team.
Train, direct, schedule, and assign projects for the Contractors and the L4 Maintenance Team Members
Responsible for various improvement databases containing implementation status for Kuka Robots (Firmware, techpacks, security updates)
Responsible for the robot back-up server
Spare parts set-up and evaluations
Level 3 breakdown support
Oversee and track progress of the projects internal or new as related to Robotics & Vision (support buy-offs, design reviews, equipment selection, etc.)
Responsible for external support contracts for robotics support
Develop systems to improve process capability through continuous improvements in programs and equipment
Perform diagnostics and continuous improvements pertaining to vision equipment
Identify special process characteristics and their required control limits
Teach and Touch up robot programs for battery assembly applications and technologies. Setup, validate or test interference zones, load determination, TCP setup, check and offset, tune in torque monitoring as required to maintain production capability
Perform, maintain and develop countermeasures for potential failure mode and effects analysis
Responsible for process continuous improvement projects for model changes, new technologies, process modifications and cost improvements in regards to robotics & vision
Investigate process/product problems. Implement and verify effective countermeasures working in conjunction with (Group Leaders, Team Leaders, Team Members and ME, Central Standards, MP, QRD, PE, PQE, SP, Maintenance and QM departments), utilizing the problem solving process
Ensure the optimal condition of equipment and processes. Make necessary adjustments to specified equipment to maintain quality
Evaluate workstation layouts and ensure optimized process design pertaining to automation, robots, vision and equipment
Plan and prepare for product changes and their impact on processes, equipment, tooling, etc
Assist in closing concerns generated from quality sensors (Loop 1/2, BAC, etc.)
Generate equipment and tooling specifications pertaining to robots, vision, automation and equipment
Assist in training for team members, team leaders and group leaders on process changes
Evaluate alternative production processes and assess their viability
Work with maintenance and contractors to make needed robot, vision, automation and equipment modifications.
Evaluate impact of engineering changes on shop processes
Perform error analysis and countermeasures
Prepare formal reports for the purpose of communicating problem/project status
Analyze production statistics (downtime, FTC, quality concerns, and TPM)
Develop systems to improve process capability
Perform safe work practices and participate in trainings and safety programs in a positive and proactive way by following safety rules, procedures, regulations, standards and laws. Report all unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and injuries to supervisor or Human Resources
Work safely 100% of the time
Perform other duties as required
Qualifikationen QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience and Necessary Skills all must be met in order to qualify for position
Education:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Or related area or the equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years' of relevant professional experience in the following area(s):Automotive engineering experience or equivalent engineering experience (i.e. process, maintenance, design or project management), with robot and robot applications in an automotive environment
Necessary Skills, Certifications, etc.:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Project)
Ability to lead cross-functional problem solving activities and work in a "startup" environment
Working knowledge of engineering supported technologies: robotics (Kuka KRC4), vision systems (Sensopart/Keyence), sealer applications, helium leak test applications
Knowledge in KRL, able to read and write basic KRL
Ability to work on or around high voltage battery systems
International and domestic travel is required
Preferred Skills:
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within team environment
Able to setup and troubleshoot: BMB3 sealer systems, Dt500, Sensopart, Keyence, gripper packages, Perceptron, screw-feeding systems, sealer systems, helium leak test systems
