The Senior Powerplant Engineer reports to the Manager Powerplant Engineering and is responsible for technical accuracy and reliability of the Powerplant and Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) systems/components.
Essential Responsibilities
- Reviews and actions Airworthiness Directives (ADs) so as to ensure compliance with applicable regulations; verifies that the Maintenance Program is amended to reflect adherence to these technical requirements
- Reviews Service Bulletins, Service Letters, etc. for applicability and system reliability and/or economic benefits; takes action as required to incorporate applicable changes that are determined to provide benefits in accordance with airline/ departmental objectives
- Responsible for the understanding, periodic review, implementation, update and currency of the Powerplant and APU systems/components portion of the Maintenance Program
- Conducts root cause analysis for Powerplant and APU systems/component problems which may cause aircraft delays, cancellations, substantial expenditures in manpower or materials or interruptions in maintenance operations and initiates the action required to remedy any undesirable condition(s) detected
- Develops technical data required for modifications/repairs of Powerplant and APU systems and components; obtains regulatory approval for modifications/repairs performed on JetBlue Powerplant and APU systems and components
- Provides engineering support as required for the disposition of discrepant Powerplant and APU systems conditions affecting aircraft and/or components so as to restore its serviceable status
- Assists Maintenance Control with "Out of Service" aircraft by providing engineering support in the form of troubleshooting, fault isolation, system integrity checks, configuration confirmation and source document clarification
- Assists Line Maintenance personnel by providing engineering support in the form of troubleshooting chronic problems, assisting with complex maintenance checks and with the research of aircraft confirmation and component/parts interchangeable/serviceability information
- Administers the Engine Condition Monitoring Program and provides instructions to Maintenance to remedy observed and/or anticipated discrepancies so as to improve dispatch reliability
- Initiates the action required to ensure that source documents affected by engineering actions are updated to reflect current data, configuration and accuracy
- Develops customized procedures and special criteria for repairs, modifications, inspections, servicing and other maintenance actions, which are not adequately addressed in existing manual
- Prepares Engineering Controls to provide technical dispositions for repairs, modifications, inspection or other maintenance actions on Powerplant and APU systems and components
- Evaluates new methods, materials and equipment, which may provide cost benefits and takes action to incorporate justified changes
- Establishes build specifications for Powerplant and APU systems/components
- Assists the Manager Airframe & Powerplant Engineering with continued development of the Powerplant Engineering processes (Sr. Engineer)
- Assists the Manager Airframe & Powerplant Engineering with the day-to-day management and control of the Powerplant Engineering process (Sr. Engineer)
- Assists with training/mentoring less experienced Powerplant Engineers (Sr. Engineer)
- Represents Powerplant Engineering at meetings as required (Sr. Engineer)
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience
- Six (6) years' experience with Powerplant engineering/engine fleet management in the airline/ aviation industry
- Familiar with Federal Aviation Regulations governing aircraft and engine certification
- Ability to communicate effectively; in both oral and written communication
- Depending upon location, may need to possess and maintain a valid Driver License and a driving record that meets JetBlue Airways' insurance standards
- Available for overnight travel (10%)
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test
- Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
- Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Possess excellent verbal and written skills as well as strong analytical abilities
- Able to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful manner
- Strong decision making and problem solving skills
- IAE V2500-A5, PW1100G or GE CF34-10E engine experience
- Engine Health Monitoring using engine trend monitoring programs
- Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Certificate
- Computer literate with Microsoft software such as Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Project
- Familiarity with TRAX Maintenance computer system.
Crewmember Expectations:
- Regular attendance and punctuality
- Ability to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice; provide on-call off-hours support to Technical Operations
- Able to maintain a professional appearance
- When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

- Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
- Uphold JetBlue's safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities

Compensation:
- The base pay range for this position is between $100,000 and $130,000 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue's total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
