Deaconess CVSL Medical Director Responsibilities

The Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Center of Excellence (CVCOE) provides leadership and strategic guidance to advance the cardiovascular service line (CVSL). Working collaboratively with administrative and clinical leaders, the Medical Director ensures high-quality patient care, program growth, operational excellence, and adherence to licensing and certification standards. The CVSL Medical Director's duties shall include, but not be limited to the following:

Strategic Planning and Leadership

1. Collaborate with the Director of CV COE and the Director of the Clinic to establish service line goals and strategic plans
2. Co-chair the CV COE Steering Team (CMC) along with CV COE Director, driving discussions and initiatives.
3. Act as a partner with the Chair of the Practice Management Board (PMB) and other regional operational cardiology leadership in alignment with local structure to ensure alignment with organizational objectives

Operational Quality and Communication
1. Assist with communication among all physicians and APPs in partnership with the COE and Clinic Directors to support strategic and operational initiatives
2. Collaborate with COE and Clinic Directors to address and manage physician behavior, ensuring alignment with organizational values, goals and policies. Involve the Practice Management Board/regional physician leaders as needed to mediate and resolve issues effectively.
3. Lead program growth efforts, including Physician/APP education, care review, quality monitoring and operational improvements to assure effective and safe patient care
4. Meet regularly with the Practice Management Board/regional physician leaders and operational leaders to address operational and quality-related matters
5. Review referral trends in collaboration with the COE and Clinic directors to identify areas for improvement in quality, cost, throughput, volume and program development
6. Review initial privilege requests for new physicians and APPs in collaboration with COE and Clinic director prior to submission to the hospital credentials committee.

Quality Metrics and Physician Goals
1. Review quality metrics and make actionable recommendations to enhance performance
2. Collaborate with all cardiovascular medical directors across the system to address process improvements and operational quality initiatives and goals as they relate to the annual quality bonus

Program Growth and Strategic Relationships
1. Provide recommendations on program growth, certifications, and strategic relationships to advance the CV COE's mission.
2. Represent Deaconess Heart Group in interactions with referring physicians, fostering relationships and promoting the program

Education and Licensing
1. Stay informed of all licensing and certification requirements, ensuring compliance for the CVCOE
2. Guide the development of educational programming for physicians to promote continuous learning and excellence in cardiovascular care.
