Summary

The King County Department of Information Technology (KCIT) GIS Center is seeking a senior team member to manage and enhance our Geographic Information System (GIS) data platforms. This position will involve designing, developing and managing robust spatial enterprise data warehouses, ensuring database integrity, performance, and security. You will manage ETL processes to integrate geospatial data from diverse sources. A key focus will be on geodatabase modernization, including migrating solutions to the cloud, developing and deploying software, and proactively troubleshooting data platform issues.

Job Duties

  • Design, implement, and maintain on-premises and cloud enterprise spatial databases
  • Develop and manage ETL processes for spatial data integration
  • Automate spatial data processing and workflows using SQL, Python and other scripting languages
  • Support GIS application development and integration
  • Collaborate with King County professionals to coordinate enterprise GIS services, policies, standards, and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with industry and organizational standards and best practices for enterprise-level spatial databases and configurations
  • Optimize database performance, ensure data integrity, and implement security measures
  • Provide expert troubleshooting and technical support for geodatabase systems, both on-premises and cloud-based
  • Conduct quality assurance, quality control, and user acceptance testing for GIS data and applications

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography/GIS, Applied Science, or a related field OR any combination of relevant education, training, and experience
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL and spatial databases (PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server Spatial, Oracle Spatial)
  • Proven expertise in database design, development, administration, and optimization techniques
  • Strong Python development skills, including data analysis and automation
  • Proficiency with Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) for database deployment and management
  • Proficiency in developing and consuming APIs and web services (REST, SOAP) for data integration
  • Experience with Visual Studio Code, Jupyter Notebook, and Git for source control and code management
  • Experience implementing and administering system monitoring solutions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with project management and working in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Excellent communication skills for effective cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to document and diagram database architecture and workflows
Desirable Qualifications
  • Master's or Advanced degree in Geography/GIS, Applied Science, or a related field
  • Esri Technical Certifications (e.g., ArcGIS Enterprise Administration, ArcGIS Developer)
  • Cloud (AWS or Azure) development or architecture certification
  • GISP (Certified GIS Professional)

The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of onsite work and telecommuting. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. Work Schedule

The normal workweek for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternative work schedules may be considered. This position is FLSA Exempt and is not eligible for overtime pay. This position will participate in After Hours Support (AHS) Rotation.
