What can you expect in this role?
- Work collaboratively with a diverse range of partners across the enterprise to draft, review and revise statements of work, schedules, templates, licenses, non-disclosure agreements, contract renewals, amendments, assignments, notices of termination and contest rules.
- Independently draft, review and negotiate lower risk contracts using approved templates and/or pre-defined standards and escalate contracts for further review/approval in accordance with enterprise procedures.
- Manage enterprise trademark portfolio. Coordinate and liaise with external counsel as required.
- Provide crucial legal support to department lawyers, focusing on commercial and information technology law matters, including preparing legal documents and assisting with client communications.
- Participate in the continuous improvement of our processes and systems for contracting.
- Provide assistance for strategic initiatives as required.
- Build and manage precedent and template documents and augment similar existing department resources.
- Conduct legal research on matters including information technology law, intellectual property rights and emerging legal issues in the commercial and technology sector.
- Help to ensure team collaboration, information sharing, organization and appropriate use of technology.
- Other projects and assignments as required to support the legal team's objectives.
What do you bring to the role?
- Law Clerk Diploma or Law Degree.
- At least 5 years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department with a focus on commercial and information technology contracts.
- Exposure to insurance or other financial institutions is an asset.
- Excellent communication, research and drafting skills, including the capacity to communicate with business partners in the way they want to be dealt with.
- Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented.
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
- Proficiency in legal software.
- Exemplary professionalism and integrity.
- Self-starter with a great attitude.
