Description:

We are seeking a Director of Finance to lead the Accounting Team for a group of related companies operating in the Agricultural Sector.

Reporting to the VP Finance & Information, you will manage internal accounting functions, tax compliance in conjunction with the group's Public Accounting firm, financial reporting, and operational finance while ensuring systems, processes, and internal controls are effective. Within the Finance and Accounting area, you will continue to develop the company's investment in timely and effective reporting while moving towards fully electronic records.

This role is crucial for ensuring the financial health of the company, guiding decision-making, and supporting overall business objectives through financial expertise, budgeting and forecasting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Accounting & Internal Controls:
Oversee department's day-to-day accounting functions including bank and balance sheet reconciliations, expense reimbursements, and tax filings.
  • Provide oversight of accounting policies, develop new procedures, and implement internal controls to ensure operational effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Lead the continued development of automated financial systems and processes and document management.

2. Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Manage the preparation and review engagement of annual financial statements in compliance with ASPE as well as preparing a quarterly combined/consolidated financial statement with management discussion and analysis.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting.
  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly financial reports for the senior management team and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the preparation of budgets, long-term forecasts, and analyze financial performance against targets.
  • Research technical accounting and tax issues to ensure compliance.

3. Operational Finance:
Manage liquidity planning, cash flow, and vendor payments.
  • Support budgeting processes.
  • Manage and review Outside Grower reporting
  • Manage and review reports and payments to Orchard Leaseholders
  • Prepare Agristability Filings
  • Working with the farming team prepare Crop Insurance Claims.

5. Tax Compliance and Regulatory Reporting:
Work with tax advisors in filing tax returns for Canada, the US, in a timely manner.
  • Oversee quarterly GST filings and SR&ED filings.
  • Oversee other regulatory reporting

6. Collaboration & Support:
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Finance team.
  • Works closely with all other departments of the Company to ensure accurate cost tracking and accurate financial reporting.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • A bachelor's degree in business/finance/accounting or a related field.
  • Accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA).
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience and demonstrated leadership roles.
  • In-depth understanding of accounting principles. Knowledge of ASPE is required. Knowledge of tax laws with a track record of ensuring compliance with filing and reporting cycles.
  • Demonstrable experience in financial planning and analysis, financial reporting, and cash flow management.
  • Experience in financial modeling and presentations of outcomes.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively as well as with autonomy and ownership in a fast-paced environment, taking the initiative to resolve issues.
  • Acceptance that as a seasonal agricultural, summers are peak work periods.
