Position Summary
The Director, Corporate & Foundation Relations is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and closure of gifts resulting in significant contributions to the University. To accomplish this, the Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations will build relationships with individuals, foundations, and corporations capable of making gifts at leadership levels.
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree plus five years of progressive development experience with outstanding writing skills and experience in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and closure of major gifts, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in educational fundraising and a working knowledge of the Maryland philanthropic community are preferred.

Physical Requirements
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The physical demands that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include but are not limited to lifting and carrying printed materials. Close visual acuity to review lists of data in both print and electronic form. Frequent typing using the keyboard. Climbing stairs, walking between campus buildings and driving to appointments.

Essential Functions
- Manage a defined portfolio of 125-150 prospects. Develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals, foundations, and corporations.
- Schedule 100+ donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship visits per year.
- Research grant-making organizations, analyze, and identify potential funding sources for specific projects, services, and programs.
- Compile, write, and edit grant applications and other documents exhibiting strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling.
- Keep in contact with grant-making organizations during their review of a submitted grant application in order to be able to supply additional supportive material.
- Gather information through interviews and other means in order to easily grasp the concept of a project, service or program for which funding is sought as defined by the person responsible for carrying it out.
- Manage the process of supplying progress reports when required by a grant-making organization that has funded a project, service or program.
- Serve as a development writer for the Office of University Advancement, to help produce campaign communications materials, contribute to the University's quarterly magazine, and assist with other projects/writing assignments as needed.
