Position Summary:
The VP Internal Audit ("VP IA") is the chief audit executive and oversees Haventree Bank's ("HTB") Internal Audit function. The VP IA, together with the Internal Audit department, represents HTB's third line of defense.
The VP IA reports directly to the Chief Legal Officer ("CLO") and the Audit & Conduct Review Committee ("ACRC"). The VP IA and ACRC maintain full, independent and unfettered access to one another in order for the VP IA to fulfill its oversight function.

The VP IA is accountable for:
- implementing an independent, objective and competent Internal Audit function that provides clarity and confidence to the Board;
- implementing a risk-based audit methodology within Internal Audit designed to establish a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the design and operating effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes; assess and express an opinion on the adequacy and effectiveness of HTB's processes for controlling its activities and managing its risks and governance processes;
- reporting findings related to the processes for controlling the activities of HTB, including potential improvements, through to resolution;
- periodically providing information on the status and results of the annual audit plan; and
- where appropriate, providing advisory services related to governance and the management of risks and the achievement of objectives that encourages innovation and process improvement.
As an overview, the VP IA is primarily responsible for:
- providing independent and objective assurance and advisory services on the design and operation of HTB's governance, risk management and controls processes. These services are designed to add value and improve HTB's operations in the achievement of its business objectives;
- providing a systematic, disciplined approach in order to evaluate and improve the effectiveness and adherence to HTB's risk management, control and governance processes;
- evaluating whether HTB's network of risk management, control & governance processes and information systems are appropriate and functioning effectively to manage key risks for achieving HTB's strategic objectives;
- influencing HTB's risk-taking activities but not directly involved in revenue generation or in the management and financial performance of HTB or any of its specific business lines;
- promoting and facilitating continuous improvement through rigorous inquiry and insightful communication; and
- providing open and transparent dialogue with key regulators including:
- the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions ("OSFI") (shared with the Chief Risk Officer); o the Financial Consumer Protection Agency of Canada ("FCAC"); and
- Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada ("FINTRAC").
Qualifications & Experience:
Degrees, Diplomas & Certifications:
- The position requires a university degree in accounting, finance or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A professional designation in accounting (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA)
Years and Range of Experience Required to Perform the Job:
- You have at least 10+ years audit experience in financial services environment, preferably in banking
- You have thorough knowledge of residential mortgage underwriting and consumer lending practices, and retail banking and supporting operational practices
- You have strong communication skills and can present technical topics to non-technical audiences
- You have experience liaising with Regulatory Authorities and Boards of Directors
- You have strong organizational skills and can prioritize and multi-task multiple demands
- You demonstrate leadership skills and experience managing audit teams and projects. Experience in supervising and mentoring staff members is important.
- Customer service, negotiating and building relationships is your strong suit
- You are creative and innovative, able to be flexible with our fast-growing business
- You enjoy working in a tight knit team, and value open communication and respect
