Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse
Job Specialty: Electrophysiology
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 4 shifts of 10 hours each, primarily 7:00 am to 5:30 pm or 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, with occasional shifts from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm or 10:00 am to 8:30 pm
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Experience: At least one year of work experience as a Registered Nurse; preferred experience in high acuity critical care, emergency department, or Cath Lab
License: Must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in South Carolina or hold a current compact/multi-state license as a Registered Nurse in a recognized compact state. New graduate RNs with a temporary work authorization must obtain a Registered Nurse license within 90 days of hire.
Certifications: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, both of which must be maintained.
Must-Have: Electrophysiology experience is required; candidates must be experienced with procedures such as ablations and Left Atrial Appendage Occlusions (LAAOs). The ability to scrub is a bonus.
Job Description:
- Assist with all procedures performed in the Electrophysiology (EP) lab, demonstrating competence in the use of EP monitoring/stimulation systems, Intra-cardiac Echo, and 3D mapping systems.
- Demonstrate a high degree of understanding of the interpretation of cardiac arrhythmias and all invasive EP procedures.
- Assist the physician with the implantation of Permanent Pacemakers, ICDs, and Bi-V-ICDs, using appropriate sterile techniques.
- Operate and troubleshoot the X-ray system effectively.
- Educate patients about procedures and ensure their comfort and cooperation throughout.
- Perform procedures following applicable policies and operate equipment per manufacturer's instructions to safely perform Cath and EP lab studies and procedures.
- Monitor patient, staff, and physician radiation exposure, maintaining exposure levels as low as reasonably achievable.
- Accurately enter patient demographics into physiological monitoring and x-ray equipment, collecting and recording patient data during procedures.
- Collect and accurately record patient billing information and ensure patient tracking data is correctly updated.
- Assist with room stocking and maintain inventory correctly.
- Improve quality by monitoring the performance of EP procedures, offering suggestions for improvement, and ensuring work meets quality standards.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with physicians, staff, and patients, responding calmly and efficiently to all emergency situations.
- Respect the confidential nature of all patient care and business issues following hospital policies.
- Display professional behavior in the workplace and adhere to safety standards, policies, and procedures.
- Accept responsibility for the continuous improvement of workplace safety by reporting unsafe conditions and suggesting improvements.
- Understand that patients may be apprehensive or fearful of invasive EP procedures, using education and empathy to alleviate or reduce apprehension and fear.
- Possess knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, hospital, medical staff, and the public, using critical thinking to analyze situations and react calmly and effectively in emergencies.
- Prepare and maintain records and write reports effectively.
