QUALIFICATIONS:

New York State certification as a school psychologist, special education teacher, school social worker, speech pathologist. Two plus years experience as a CPSE or CSE chairperson preferred. Multilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.

JOB SUMMARY:

Position requires the planning, organization, and implementation of the appropriate instructional program to address the learning needs of the students; to guide and encourage students to develop and fulfill their potential in both curricular and extracurricular activities.

  • The CPSE or CSE chairperson reports to the Director of Pupil Personnel Services. The CPSE or CSE chairperson must have a solid knowledge of CPSE or CSE NYS law, guidelines and regulations as related to Special Education services; Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; the ability to interpret an extensive variety of data and deal with several abstract and concrete variables; the ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community; the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
  • The CPSE or CSE Chairperson will work with clerical support to schedule, arrange CPSE or CSE meetings; Chairs each CPSE or CSE meeting and makes sure the IEPs are accurately and completely prepared. Communicate with parents, staff, and agencies regarding CSE or CPSE meetings and recommendations. Coordinates CSE or CPSE activities with the State Education Department and participates in impartial hearings as Performs and completes other duties and responsibilities as specifically determined by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services and/or designee.
