Job Title: System Administrator and Application Owner

Location: Middletown, New Jersey

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Server Maintenance:


    • Install, configure, and maintain Red Hat and Ubuntu servers.


    • Perform regular system updates, patches, and security configurations.


    • Monitor server performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability.


    • Maintain backups and disaster recovery plans.


  • Application Management:


    • Manage and maintain the Yii1.1 application running on Apache web server.


    • Perform application updates, bug fixes, and improvements.


    • Ensure the application meets security and compliance requirements.


    • Optimize application performance and scalability.


  • System Administration:


    • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.


    • Implement and maintain network and server security measures.


    • Monitor system logs and respond to alerts and incidents.


    • Automate routine tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python).


    Requirements and Skills:

    • Proven experience as a System Administrator and Application Owner.


    • Strong understanding of server operating systems, particularly Red Hat and Ubuntu.


    • Experience with web servers, specifically Apache.


    • Hands-on experience with Yii1.1 framework. Proficient in PHP programming language, familiarity with MVC architecture and web application development


    • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and Python.


    • Understanding of network protocols and services (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS). Experience with network configuration and troubleshooting.


    • Knowledge of server and application security best practices.


    • Experience with firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and security audits.


    • Familiarity with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL).


    • Ability to perform database backups, restores, and optimizations.


    • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).


    • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) a plus.

    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.


    • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.


    • The annual salary for this position is between $104K - $118K depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
      This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
