Job Description

As a Technology Manager, you will be responsible for leading the end-to-end delivery of technology solutions (TS) led initiatives. This is crucial role for the TS delivery organization as we move towards platform and application- based delivery. We are looking for delivery leads with the right expertise and flexible experience in navigating complex, technology-driven implementations, leveraging both traditional and iterative / Agile delivery methodologies. On a day-to-day basis you will work closely with senior technology and business stakeholders to drive delivery and coordination activities across multiple cross-functional project teams - your practical experience will be key to enabling these teams, while also growing our internal delivery capabilities for future transformations.

What can you expect in this role?

Delivery Leadership
  • Lead and manage end-to-end technology solutions and services delivery for the Commercial Insurance technology portfolio
  • Build strong working relationship with business product owners to meet business objectives and benefits
  • Build strong working relationships within the Techonology organization to ensure optimal performance and alignment with technology strategy, roadmaps and objectives
  • Establish and maintain practical governance practices and forums, ensuring that team impediments and blockers are resolved in a timely manner, while also keeping executive stakeholder informed
  • Provide supporting data / insight to Technology Leaders and Portfolio Managers where necessary
  • Report into Executive leadership regularly to provide status updates

People Leadership
  • Responsible for leading members of Agile delivery teams, in managing day-to-day activities and performance objectives in alignment with department goals and objectives
  • Responsible for the professional growth of team members in the tradition of Definity's employee culture of diversity, inclusiveness, wellness, and job-satisfaction
  • Provides leadership to attract and retain high-quality talent

What do you bring to the role?
  • Undergraduate Degree in Business/Commerce or a Technology Discipline (Computer Science, Engineering)
  • 10+ years relevant experience in designing, developing and managing mainframe, Java applications and IBM integration bus technology /middle ware
  • 5+ years of leading and implementing technology initiatives in financial services
  • 2+ years of people management and team development
  • Strong experience in executing Agile methodology, working with, and leading scrum teams
  • Subject matter expert in a range of technology with extensive technical experience
  • Experience in successfully delivering initiatives with matrix structured teams consisting of dedicated and shared resources
  • Demonstrate an ability to lead and manage a team in a busy and changing environment while fostering positive performance and engagement
  • Models solid leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop, motivate, and retain staff
  • Strong analytical, time management and organizational skills
  • Proactively communicates information in a clear and positive manner. Layering excellent decision-making skills with a natural aptitude for observation
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills to multi-task and effectively manage competing and changing priorities
  • Experience in Insurance platforms such as Guidewire is considered an asset
  • Practical knowledge of project management techniques, tools, methodologies
  • Extensive large-scale cloud and SaaS modernization, integration, and operations experience is considered an asset .
  • Passion to drive a non-hierarchical, agile operating model and 'roll up the sleeves', going outside his or her comfort zone to learn, and pushing the team to do the same
