Duties & Responsibilities
Summary:
The MBB Chief of Staff's chief purpose is to assist in the administration, compliance, community outreach, academics, sports participation and student-athlete development of the Men's Basketball program. Reporting to the Head Men's Basketball Coach, the MBB Chief of Staff works to further VCU Athletics' mission to win conference and national championships, provide a first-class student-athlete experience, serve as a source of pride for the University and community, and cultivate graduates who excel as leaders.
Typical Duties
10% Travel Coordination
Essential
Duties include, but are not limited to, organizing team travel, including hotels, meals and practice times; and acting as liaison between Men's Basketball and athletic administration associated with travel.
20%Budget Management
Essential
Duties include, but are not limited to, managing the Men's Basketball budget in consultation with the Head Coach.
35%Program Management
Essential
Duties include, but are not limited to, acting as liaison between men's basketball and athletic administrators, coordinating communication with student-athletes, organizing summer basketball scheduling, acting as a liaison to VCU Athletics Compliance by keeping accurate files to maintain and remain in compliance with University, A-10, and NCAA rules and regulations, general oversight of program administration.
30%Supervision
Essential
Supervise and oversee the work of the MBB Student Managers, the MBB Video Coordinator, the MBB Director of Student-Athlete Development, the MBB Director of Player Development, and the Assistant Director of MBB Operations
5%Other Duties as Assigned
Other duties as assigned by the Head Men's Basketball Coach.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
An advanced degree or training & experience equivalent to an advanced degree; and
Previous playing experience in the sport of basketball.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or training & experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree;
Minimum of two (2) years' experience at a NCAA Division I level Men's Basketball program;
A strong sense of principles and ethics in regard to the welfare of student-athletes; and
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
