FTE (Full-Time Equivalent): As assigned
Schedule of Duties:As assigned during the 10 month academic year
Salary:$82,000 - $170,000 annual/salary, based on 100%FTE. Prorated for actual assigned length of time
Position Purpose: The core teacher is responsible for all aspects of creating a dynamic learning environment for students in the class.
Specific Expectations for P-8 Faculty: In addition to regular teaching responsibilities-such as curriculum planning, class preparation, grade reporting, report card narratives, parent-teacher conferences, supervision duties, classroom substitution, advisory, elective teaching, office hours, and participation in class trips-P-8 faculty are expected to contribute to the broader school community and support program growth. This includes building a strong sense of community for students, promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, engaging in professional development and training opportunities, and attending required meetings and events, such as Director's Days, Open Houses, accreditation meetings, and class overnight trips, as directed by your supervisor. If staff are required to work outside of regular work schedule; non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay, as eligible.

Essential Functions
- Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
- Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
- Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students' progress.
- Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.
- Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.
- Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of elementary school programs.
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- BA degree in a relevant field and three years of relevant teaching experience. Prior experience working in an independent/ Sacred Heart school environment, Master's degree in a relevant field and teaching credential strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Demonstrated ability to teach middle school-level course(s) in at least one other discipline within their subject area.
- Demonstrated ability to teach children with joy and verve.
- A strong understanding of and commitment to pedagogy aligned with the National Council of Teachers.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate innovative technology to support student learning.
- Demonstrated ability to support all learners, including those with an identified learning difference or disability.
- Obvious passion for their grade level and fostering that passion in students.
- Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic and other school programs.
- Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills; additional skills in Spanish are valued and preferred.
- A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and professional behavior based on it.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Works in an often highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
- Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment and intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold typical to the Mid-Peninsula in the Bay Area.
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. and regularly travel safely and comfortably over a 63 acre campus.
- Available and willing to attend and work some evenings/weekends.
- Abide by school's current safety policies (ex: wearing masks, washing hands, etc.)
