About the Role:

As an APT Industrial Design Specialist in the Future Systems Advanced Products and Technology (APT) group, you shall execute design activities associated with new product ideation, design, development and capture lessons learned through the build and evaluation for defense applications. The APT Industrial Design Specialist will participate in multi-disciplined teams of Systems Engineering and Design Engineering Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) with a spirit of creativity, innovation, quality and continuous improvement. With a focus on researching, studying, designing and executing advanced concepts you will enable GD to successfully capture, execute, and grow our GD product portfolio to grow in both domestic and international markets.

Responsibilities to Anticipate for This Role:

This APT Industrial Design Specialist role is focused on the development of new concepts, technology research, special studies, and advanced product development for defense systems.
  • Provide Industrial Design Ideation and Concepts for Future Systems and Capabilities Design efforts related to new product development.
  • Develop design concepts that are related to defense systems and capabilities.
  • Develop design concepts around how humans' interface with robots, operator controls, software, and artificial intelligence.
  • Focus areas include how our Warfighters engage with control systems through their senses (sight, touch, audible, etc.).
  • Research industry HMI strategies, methods, best practices, and designs.
  • Develop concepts and support the creation of solutions and laboratory testing throughout an iterative process to build a strong HMI capability at GDLS.
  • Inform and assist future systems in selecting, acquiring and utilizing Industrial Design tools.
  • Support briefings for senior leadership at headquarters and in the Global markets.
  • Metrics gathering and analysis.
  • Designing, editing, proofing, fact checking.
  • Lithograph and template development.
  • Use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools.
  • Ensuring content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, and quality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Sought:
  • Must hold a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited 4-year university or college with a discipline in Industrial Design (ID) or Graphic Design
  • 5 plus years experience in a professional related role
  • Strong typography and layout skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet or exceed deadlines, and build strong team relationship with members of the communications and strategy teams
  • Microsoft Office experience including PowerPoint, Excel, Photoshop, SharePoint, Illustrator, InDesign, PDF composition
  • Established experience in photography/graphic arts
  • Ability to clearly understand and represent complex graphics and information that is pleasing to the eye
  • Demonstrated creativity / innovation.
  • A spirit of continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated initiative and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Additional Information/Requirements
  • Expertise with graphics software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with AP style guidelines.
  • Design, photography, video and art experience.
  • XML, HTML experience.

This position will require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance)
