Job Title: Polysomnographic Technologist
Job Specialty: Sleep Lab

Experience: Two plus (2)+ years of experience in a sleep lab
License: Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) - American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM), Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) - Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)
Certifications: BLS (American Heart Assoc.)
Must-Have:
- Proficiency in performing ancillary testing (oximetry, actigraphy, home sleep apnea testing)
- Proficiency in distinguishing sleep states and identifying clinical events, according to professional guidelines
- Associates Degree in Polysomnographic Technology or Certificate of Completion
Job Description:
- Provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in-center and home sleep apnea testing (HSAT), diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and comprehensive patient care
- Document patient arrival, interactions, and consent for testing
- Review and verify departmental orders for testing
- Acquire and document additional information from the patient or ordering provider, if needed, to ensure appropriateness of testing and parameters
- Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting, desensitization, and education
- Prepare patient for testing according to policy, selecting and setting up appropriate equipment as per order
- Document routine observations during testing
- Correlate physiologic data and behavioral observations to facilitate scoring and interpretation of data
- Perform equipment and physiological calibrations to ensure quality data and monitor data quality to ensure recording is artifact-free
- Perform equipment cleaning and disinfection; ensure infection and quality control according to policy
- Implement appropriate interventions, including patient safety and sleep-related therapeutic interventions
- Follow procedures to verify data integrity, completeness of test documentation, and patient forms
- Build and maintain effective working relationships; communicate professionally and respectfully with all internal and external customers
- Assist in requesting and maintaining testing supplies; participate in routine department tasks and maintain the orderliness of work area
- Score sleep/wake stages and clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing professionally accepted guidelines
- Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data, utilizing the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy
- Support and participate in quality and performance improvement initiatives
- Follow procedural protocols for Multiple Sleep Latency and Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing
- Directly participate in training and oversight of Polysomnographic Trainees and Technicians
- Perform real-time scoring during PSG testing and CPAP titration
- Attend customer service training and serve as a resource to manage patient and family service recovery
- Serve as a resource to support comprehensive sleep study completion within the sleep labs, supporting troubleshooting of acquisition software and hardware technical challenges
