Director, Merchandising - Dairy

Overview

The Director of Dairy develops and manages the merchandising strategy to include sales, margin requirements, product development policies, programs, objectives, and initiatives with oversight from the VP of Non-Perishable. This person will lead the Dairy merchandising teams, coaching and guiding team members in delivering best in class offerings for Sprouts' customers.

Essential Functions

• Oversee Dairy merchandising team while establishing priorities and assisting the team in the achievement of department goals.
• Create and implement the commodity strategy based on analytics, with strong cross functional partnership within the Merchandising departments.
• Manage supplier relationships and negotiations, including cost, assortment and contract terms.
• Evaluate supplier performance and hold vendor accountable to negotiated terms as needed
• Work in close collaboration with cross functional partners to leverage data to help drive decision making.
• Meet department financial objectives through forecasting, preparing an annual budget and closely analyzing variances.
• Provide relevant information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans while resolving problems, identifying trends; determining needed improvements and implementing change

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements

• High school diploma required
• College degree preferred with ten (10) years of increasing experience in management of a department and/or as a Merchandiser
• Demonstrated advanced knowledge of food and beverage: products, recipes, categories, programs, origins and trends
• Previous buying/negotiating experience required
• Requires long-term strategic and financial planning skills
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and the Internet
• Ability to preserve confidentiality of information, communicate with all levels of management and work within strict time frames and resolute deadlines
• Complete understanding of P/L statements, general ledgers, and margins
• Some travel required
