Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating nine institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska and one year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Certified Nurse Investigator certification. Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience with a focus on clinical practice/healthcare administration. Experience in risk management, fraud/misconduct investigations, healthcare compliance. Experience conducting investigations, audits, or quality assurance reviews within a healthcare/corrections setting. Knowledge of State and Federal regulations. Experience in reviewing policies, procedures, and processes.
Other: Must submit to background security check. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the pre-employment medical examination and a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Department of Correctional Services' Pre-service Training Program.

- Provide consultation on medical records; assist with reviews, inquiries, audits and investigations as sanctioned by the Office of the NDCS Chief Inspector. Position reports to the NDCS Chief Inspector.
- Will assist with or conduct interviews of medical personnel, review NDCS policies and procedures, and provide consultation on medical issues and long-term care issues to the NDCS Chief Inspector, NDCS Legal Division, cooperating law enforcement, and NDCS Executive staff; and review complaints filed with NDCS or from other sources.
- Reviews complaints filed by incarcerated individuals or parolees, their families, or as assigned by the NDCS Chief Inspector.
- Conducts routine and advanced reviews, inquiries, and investigations of possible or alleged fraud, waste or misconduct including allegations of abuse or neglect of persons within NDCS.
- Develops accurate detailed reports of all reviews, inquiries, and investigations with recommendations based on a statement of facts for administrative action or referral, if warranted. Assists the NDCS Chief Inspector to compile data for reporting purposes.
- Conducts interviews, investigations, audits and writes reports on information gathered from all sources. Locates, collects, and preserves evidence.
- Procures, analyzes and interprets computerized data, financial records, medical records, investigative records, legal documents, federal and state laws, regulations, policies and other material in the pursuit of evidence of fraud and adult abuse.
- Testifies in administrative or court proceedings resulting from investigations. Provides education to provider groups and community groups, if requested.
