PAY RANGE: $133,300.00 - $160,000.00 ANNUALLY

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The role of the Manager, Commercial Underwriting is responsible for managing a team of commercial underwriters who are responsible for the underwriting of real estate and commercial business credit requests, and portfolio managers that provide on-going monitoring of a member's performance to the documented terms. This person will have a thorough knowledge of, and be responsible for, developing, managing, and recommending changes to the underwriting procedures and guidelines, to ensure an acceptable level of risk within the portfolio. The manager is responsible for motivational leadership with emphasis on teamwork, constant communication, training, and performance management

TASKS, DUTIES, FUNCTIONS:
  • Manage and support the team's activities which include spreading, underwriting, monitoring and reporting.


  • Provide consistent and knowledgeable expertise in all commercial lending areas.


  • Work and coordinate with all stakeholders involved in deals to ensure deadlines and objectives are met.
  • Approving deals within assigned authority limits, ensuring timely and accurate decision-making.
  • Ensure ongoing data integrity of loan portfolio information and recommend corrective actions as identified in a timely manner.
  • Ensure a consistent work product that is without errors or omissions
  • Managing underwriter productivity, including coaching and mentoring on desk-management skills for both generalist and specialty underwriters
  • Accountable for audit results, compliance scores, and reviewing and coordinating above-authority referrals
  • Organize and prepare monthly and quarterly credit review, underwriting performance reports for management or others as needed. Make presentations on credit quality findings and action plans for improvements as requested.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify, research, validate, implement, and evaluate opportunities to enhance underwriting policies, program guidelines and new products as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the pertinent regulatory requirements and risks inherent to job responsibilities, establish, and maintain control activities that mitigate those risks consistent with the Credit Union's risk appetite, and ensure operational integrity and compliance with applicable regulations.


  • PHYSICAL SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXERTION UTILIZED IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THESE TASK:

    1. Proficient in using relevant computer applications and software.

    2. Ability to analyze situations, identify issues, and implement effective solutions.

    3. Familiarity with industry trends and an initiative-taking approach to process improvement.

    5. Effective oral and written communication skills required to interact with credit union staff and management and to achieve positive outcomes.

    ORGANIZATIONAL CONTACTS & RELATIONSHIPS:
  • INTERNAL: Managers, peer supervisors, and staff at all levels.
  • EXTERNAL: Credit Union members, vendors, auditors, service providers, regulatory entities, the general public and other business-related relationships that may arise.


  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in business or a related field preferred. Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • EXPERIENCE: Five years or more managing business/commercial lending underwriting and credit risk.
  • KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective leadership skills and strong knowledge of business/commercial lending products.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills and timely responses.
  • Possess an advanced ability to navigate and resolve conflicts with discretion and professionalism.
  • Advanced in using systems, databases, and other relevant technologies.
  • Independent self- motivated worker who takes initiative without need of supervision.
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to sudden changes in the work environment.
  • Analyze situations and make critical informed decisions that support our strategic objectives.


  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Prolonged sitting throughout the workday with occasional mobility required.
  • Corrected vision within the normal range.
  • Hearing within normal range. A device to enhance hearing will be provided if needed.
  • Occasional movements throughout the department daily to interact with staff, accomplish tasks, etc.
  • Extensive PC data entry and processing throughout the workday
