Job Description
Assignment Level III
Under direction, with very broad latitude for independent action or decision-making, performs difficult and
responsible professional and/or supervisor work in the field of psychology. In addition to performing duties of
the lower Assignment Levels at a more difficult and responsible level, performs the following tasks:
Examples of Typical Tasks:
1. Plans, organizes and supervises psychological service programs and/or units and participates in the
development of program objectives.
2. Advises on kinds of services to be rendered, areas to be emphasized, and utilization of psychological
services to help meet overall program objectives.
3. Consults with administrative and/or medical staff regarding general policies which affect psychological services.
4. Supervises the work of psychologists and psychology staff and acts as a consultant to them on problems
they encounter.
5. Allocates time and number of staff to various psychological activities.
6. Initiates programs and writes grant proposals to receive independent funding for the programs.
7. Develops and conducts internship training programs for graduate students in clinical psychology.
8. Represents psychological services to, and speaks before, lay and professional organizations.
GENERAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
o Overseeing all program development, clinical care and day-to-day operations
o Providing crisis intervention services
o Collaborating with emergency departments and inpatient units to develop appropriate discharge plans
o Conducting intakes, including psychosocial evaluation, diagnostic clarification and treatment planning
o Administering safety assessments and psychological evaluations as needed
o Identifying and collaborating with existing support systems, facilitating community referrals as needed.
o Providing ongoing evidence-based psychotherapy individual and group sessions with patients and their families
o Participating in ongoing trainings and providing individual supervision
o Monitoring staff activities to ensure compliance with all of the above
o Preparing performance evaluations of supervisees
o Conducting and/or attending individual, unit, department, intra/inter hospital, and community meetings as assigned
o Participating in Psychology Department initiatives
o Monitoring charts and other records
o Completing and reporting program data, and other duties as assigned
o Complying with departmental, facility, network, city, state, federal and Joint Commission standards and regulations
Minimum Qualifications
SPECIAL NOTE # = Additional Requirements for Assignment Level III
For assignment to Assignment Level III, individuals must have the following in addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements for Assignment Level I above:
A. The Doctoral Degree in Psychology as described under Special Note A. for Assignment Level II, and
B. A valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education; and
C. Four years of satisfactory full-time experience in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology, or Neuro-Psychology, of which at least one year must have been under the direct supervision of a qualified Psychologist or Psychiatrist, and at least three years must have been in a supervisory capacity as a licensed Psychologist.
D. License Requirements for Assignment Level III
For assignment to Assignment Level III, a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education. This license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.
