Overview:
We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager to report into the Head of Software Engineering for our retail applications. This is an exciting opportunity that will be part of a greenfield technology ecosystem build. The selected candidate shall be an experienced technical leader who has previously worked to standup a new ecosystem that will involve multiple systems, vendors and implementation partners. They shall work closely with our technology employees, vendors and business partners to develop business automation solutions. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, software development, and effective communication skills. Additionally, the Software Engineering Manager will work on organizational system initiatives to assess, design, and develop solutions for both application and strategic roadmap efforts. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who has in-depth experience standing up a greenfield technology ecosystem involving multiple systems and processes. Talcott's infrastructural environment is a true hybrid cloud platform, leveraging a datacenter cage along with multiple cloud and SaaS providers. This individual will oversee the delivery across multiple systems, working with different implementation teams, tracking through deliverables against the program timeline and help teams navigate through risks/issues while partnering with internal stakeholders.

- Leverage technical background to guide the team to effectively overcome high impact issues and execution of key initiatives
- Manage the implementation of a large scaled multi-vendor technology ecosystem, while interacting with multiple teams and vendors partners.
- Own the responsibility for the stability, support and technology currency of applications or technical domains.
- Manage, prioritize and coordinate platform enhancements, changes, patching cross the business areas and partner vendors.
- Collaborate with business and technical teams (in-house and vendors), develop strategies/solutions, and deliver on project milestones.
- Drive architectural, coding and other process standards into project and development efforts, aligned to Talcott's practice
- Communicate the impacts of system changes to business partners and leaders within the organization with associated estimates for project deliverables
- Lead and/or participate in planning/clarification sessions with business stakeholders, business analysts, team members, and vendors
- Operate as a Team Lead or Delivery Owner for specific projects
- Set an example with hands on technology or domain expertise
- Apply quality assurance principles ensuring successful delivery of business requirements
- Provide ad hoc support for software contractors and outsourcing partners while managing related contracts
- Assign work to direct reports, track their contributions, and assess team performance
- Support talent development needs for the team thru ongoing coaching and mentorship
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of related experience leading large scale program implementation with expert knowledge of systems integrations
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or a related discipline and/or equivalent work experience
- Experience with individual annuities is preferred
- Demonstrated experience with software development, testing, and quality assurance methodologies
- Experience leading large-scale implementations and integration of multiple vendor systems
- Passion for learning, sharing and applying new technologies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Readily able to translate complex technical information into non-technical terms for broad audiences
- Thorough understanding of the testing phases for the implementation of large-scale application implementation processes
- Passion for understanding business problems, developing creative solutions and driving strategic efforts
- Analytical approach with a strong ability to uncover/resolve problems and deliver innovative solutions
- Strong working knowledge of how to apply disciplined software development processes
- Readily able to manage shifting priorities in a fast-pace, dynamic organization
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate effective relationships with peers as part of a high- performing team
