Primary Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, the Director of Technology provides strategic leadership and oversight for all aspects of the school district's technology infrastructure, systems, and services. This role is responsible for ensuring the effective integration of technology into educational programs, administrative operations, and student learning, while maintaining a secure and reliable technology environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strategic Leadership and Planning:
- Provide leadership and vision for the integration of technology into curriculum and instruction.
- Advise the Superintendent and school board on emerging technologies and their potential impact on the district.
- Develop and manage the district's technology budget, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the district's network infrastructure, including hardware, software, and telecommunications systems.
- Ensure the reliability, security, and performance of all technology systems.
- Oversees the management and maintenance of the district's data centers, servers, and storage systems.
- Oversee the implementation and management of cloud-based services and applications.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the district's information systems including the student information system, behavior management system, data warehouse and others as determined relevant.
- Ensure accurate state and federal reporting.
- Provide support across departments by providing additional reporting capabilities for SQL based databases.
- Generate regular reports summarizing program metrics and outcomes for stakeholders.
- Conduct periodic audits and validation checks to identify and rectify discrepancies.
- Develop and implement comprehensive information security policies and procedures to protect district data and systems.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations related to data privacy and security (e.g., HIPPA, COPPA, FERPA, CIPA).
- Manage the district's cybersecurity program, including vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and incident response.
- Oversee the implementation of filtering devices and security protocols to ensure proper use of the network.
- Collaborate with curriculum and instruction staff to integrate technology into teaching and learning.
- Provide professional development and training to teachers and staff on the effective use of technology.
- Evaluate and recommend instructional technology tools and resources to support student learning.
- Work with subject area coordinators to implement classroom technology applications in various content areas.
- Instill in students the concepts of discovery, research and experimentation through technology.
- Manage the district's technology support services, ensuring timely and effective resolution of technical issues.
- Oversee the procurement, deployment, and maintenance of technology equipment and software.
- Maintain records relating to inventory, repair and use of school district computer equipment.
- Supervise and evaluate technology staff, providing leadership, guidance, and professional development.

- Manages and supervises all employees in responsibility areas, including the recruitment, selection, training, professional development and evaluation of staff; makes recommendations regarding goals, provides constructive feedback and takes corrective action if necessary.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents.
- Collaborate with other district departments to ensure alignment of technology initiatives.
- Prepare and present reports on technology initiatives and performance to the Superintendent and school board.
- Handles all questions from employees regarding the use of the school district's computer network systems for the purpose of resolving issues and implementing corrective measures.
- Develop school district Information Technology procedures and revises as necessary to ensure internal and external quality controls.
- Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions for the purpose of providing direction for the school district's IT function and to ensure the computer network system is meeting school district needs.
Additional Duties:
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
- Uses standard office equipment such as personal computer, scanner, copy machine, fax machine, telephone.
- Twelve months per year, standard manager schedule as needed to successfully meet management goals and objectives, manage department, and meet employee and client needs.

Qualification Profile

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Master's Degree in related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a technology leadership role, preferably in a K12 public school setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in the use of technology to support instruction and administrative operations.
- Successful experience managing large-scale technology projects and budgets.
- Experience with network infrastructure, information security, and data privacy in a K12 environment.
- Successful supervisory experience.
- Formal training (courses, workshops, conferences) in use and implementation of technology in a school setting.
- Experience using a network to store, retrieve, and disseminate files and documents to end-users.
- Software troubleshooting experience.
