Job Description

Data and Analytics (DnA) organization strives to empower NYC Health + Hospitals and its partners with data and digital tools, AI capabilities, and insights to drive quality and performance improvements, support enterprise operations, and enhance patient outcomes. The DnA effort optimizes the data governance infrastructure and utilization of data to drive decision-making and system-wide innovation while aligning with the organization's overall mission and strategic goals.

Reporting to the Chief Data Officer (CDO), the Strategic Operations Director drives the strategic vision, operational efficiency, and implementation of data and AI initiatives across NYC Health + Hospitals. This role collaborates closely with DnA senior leadership and business stakeholders to prioritize high-impact projects, manage intake processes, and streamline workflows for seamless execution. Additionally, the Director will assist in overseeing DNA's Operations and support the team's strategic goals. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong organizational and communication skills, healthcare data and AI expertise, and the ability to navigate complex systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the intake and prioritization of projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives and delivering measurable value and impact.
  • Act as a liaison between the CDO's office and internal stakeholders, ensuring consistent communication, alignment, and collaboration across teams and departments.
  • Support strategic planning by setting goals, monitoring progress, and adjusting priorities to align with organizational needs.
  • Manage DnA operations, including budgeting, staffing, and performance metrics, to ensure efficiency and promote team development.
  • Regularly review the entire DnA portfolio, assessing the performance of existing products and solutions, and making recommendations for enhancements, updates, or discontinuation to optimize service delivery.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to create clear career paths for all DnA roles, establishing progression criteria, skill development opportunities, and growth milestones.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive performance evaluation framework for DnA staff with well-defined criteria and metrics aligned to organizational objectives.
  • Foster and maintain strategic partnerships with technology vendors, academic institutions, and industry organizations to drive innovation and stay current with best practices in data and AI.
  • Prepare executive briefings, presentations, and reports to support data-driven decision-making and demonstrate progress on key initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation within the team by mentoring and developing members to achieve operational excellence and drive continuous improvement.


Minimum Qualifications
1. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Administration, Statistics or a related discipline, and five (5) years of experience in systems analysis and design of information systems, two (2) years of which must have been in a managerial or supervisory capacity; or
2. A satisfactorily equivalent combination of certificates, education and/or experience, in which thirty (30) graduate-level semester credits from an accredited college or university can be substituted for one (1) year of experience, and each month spent completing relevant certificates can be credited for one (1) month of experience. However, all applicants must have at least a Bachelor's Degree.

Department Preferences

Certification(S)/NYS Licenses/Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Management, Data Science, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other Requirements:
  • Proven experience in operations management, project management, or similar strategic role, preferably within a healthcare or data-driven environment.
  • Strong strategic thinking, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Collaborative leadership and the ability to influence and drive change across the organization.
  • Excellent oral, written communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.

Years of Experience:
  • 8+ years of experience in healthcare, data and analytics, or project management, with a strong understanding of data and AI in a healthcare setting.
