Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner complements and assists the work of the attending faculty and surgical residents to provide integrative inpatient and outpatient care in the surgery services, which includes acute care, gastrointestinal, bariatric, colorectal, hepatopancreatobiliary, surgical oncology, breast, plastics, and endocrine surgery. The Nurse Practitioner serves as a high-level professional, whose activities will span the full range of adult inpatient care of surgical patients, taking responsibility for the safe delivery of care under the supervision of attending physicians and residents.
Full assumption of these responsibilities will follow a training period, during which time the Nurse Practitioner will be monitored by a physician supervisor in order to determine that knowledge and skills have reached the appropriate level. The Nurse Practitioner will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Section Chief of General Surgery, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $100.48 - $130.31 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications

NP 1
  • Two - three (2 to 3) years of previous experience as an RN in an Acute Care setting with surgical patients
  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position
NP 2
  • One to two (1 to 2) years of previous experience as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position


Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an advanced practice fellowship in a surgical specialty and ability to provide evidence of completion


License/Certification

  • California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
  • Current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.
    • Accepted Certifications for this position: ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC; internal candidates with required experience A-GNP-C, ANP-C, FNP-C, GNP-C, AGPCNP-BC, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, GNP-BC
  • Current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
  • Complete a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a nurse practitioner.
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address
  • Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
  • Current AHA BLS.
  • Curent AHA ACLS.
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice
  • Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1


UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
