Senior Continuous Improvement Specialist

Primary Function

This position provides continuous improvement support to Nemours by functioning as an analyst, facilitator, consultant and/or project manager as required. This individual will work throughout the system with a broad range of stakeholder groups in clinical, operational and enterprise systems areas. This work includes leading larger scale continuous improvement work such as value stream mapping (VSM), integrated facility design (IFD), strategy/goal deployment, and/or Production Preparation Process (3P).

Essential Functions
  • Facilitates guides and supports continuous improvement work as directed by executive leadership. This encompasses leading large scale work efforts that may span the enterprise or be geographical in nature. This work includes preparation and planning for the projects, conducting the necessary workshops, implementation, daily management, and coaching leaders throughout the project.
  • Assist enterprise and senior leadership with strategy development and deployment through the facilitation and use of appropriate continuous improvement tools (e.g. strategy A3).
  • Develops, tests, and implements new Continuous Improvement training programs and materials across the enterprise. Revise existing training materials through feedback and update cycles.
  • Serves as a preceptor resource for Nemours Continuous Improvement Specialists and Fellows.
  • Coach at all levels of the organization on the habits and disciplines of a successful continuous improvement culture. Teach and train teams and individuals on the application of problem specific tools to support improvement activity.
  • Demonstrate the ability to challenge the status-quo and encourage break-through thinking to ensure Continuous Improvement principles are implemented.
  • Researches and identifies relative benchmarks to be used in the establishment of daily management measures to ensure compliance with standard work.
  • Develops reliable methods and standard work used by the Continuous Improvement team.
  • Participates in tactical and strategic planning for the continuous improvement work to be done in concert with Nemours leadership. Develops, maintains and revises work plans as appropriate. Monitors outcomes. Integrates work with other departmental initiatives and revises as needed.
  • Assures adherence to Continuous Improvement standards and methodologies across the enterprise.
  • Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employee's supervisor.

Knowledge, Formal Education, and Training
  • Bachelors degree
  • Extensive experience with Lean management systems, tools, and methodologies
  • 10 years of direct experience in lean facilitation and the various tools (e.g. 5S, RPI, Value Stream. IFD, 3P) and coaching / mentoring other individuals to conduct workshops independently.
