The Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB)is the primary provider of public mental health, substance abuse, and intellectual disability services for the City of Norfolk. A continuum of services spans from outreach and prevention through intensive psychiatric care, provided by highly clinically oriented service professionals with expertise in these service areas.
Today, the NCSB provides treatment and rehabilitation services to over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly. The NCSB is seeking a Nurse Coordinator Supervisor to ensure the provision of ACT model assertive community treatment and hospital diversion services to adult SMI/COD consumers in the NCSB via clinical and administrative program coordination, direct service, consultation, and education, as well as other intra and interagency functions. The Nurse Coordinator Supervisor supervises all Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses with the program. Assure that program nursing care if efficient, safe, and practiced with in acceptable standards in accordance with all agency, state, and federal requirements. Provides direct psychiatric and general nursing care for patient's services in the program. Works closely with the program team leader, psychiatrist, and practice manager to develop, implement, and monitor program policies and procedures and outcomes. Completes clinical documentation in accordance with agency guidelines.
Department Hiring Salary Range: $78,434 - $90,199
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Education/Experience
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through two (2) years of college resulting in the completion of a Licensed Practical Nurse program or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Four (4) years of school resulting in the completion of a Registered Nurse program is preferred.
Two (2) years as and Registered Nurse or five (5) years as an LPN.
Preferred Experience:
Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse and three years' experience in a psychiatric hospital, clinic, jail, or community mental health setting with significant experience providing care to individuals with mental illness, substance use disorders, general medical conditions, and psychotropic medications. Experience managing the activities of RN's and LPN's.
Additional Information & Requirements
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Supervises Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Coordinates nursing services with assigned programs.
- Provides psychiatric and general medical nursing care.
- Assures nursing services are practiced within acceptable standards in accordance with all agencies, state, and federal requirements.
- Assists in developing, implementing, and monitoring nursing policies, procedures, and outcome measures.
- Responsible for managing work schedules, record reviews, staff education, performance evaluations, disciplinary measures, and nurse evaluation and selection for hire.
- Coordinates and schedules all nursing activities supervises staff nurses, provides and documents individual and group supervision activities, performs record reviews to ensure staff nurses are performing within the standard of care and documenting required nursing activities appropriately.
- Provides psychiatric and general medical nursing services including medication administration, injections, phlebotomy, vital signs, AIMS testing, monitoring of clinical withdrawal symptoms utilizing CIWA and COW'S scales, mental status examinations and other assessments as required.
- Assists in developing, implementing, and monitoring nursing policies, procedures and outcomes. Acts as a liaison between physicians, nursing staff and other staff.
Education/Experience

- Must hold current licensure to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus for new hires.
