As our first Data Visualization / Analytics Engineer, you'll define and implement the foundational data frameworks, pipelines, and dashboards that guide decisions for our customers, internal team members, and partners. This position offers a unique opportunity to chart our analytics course from runway to takeoff, propelling the future of flight training.

Role Overview and Responsibilities:
  • Support Business Insights: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop actionable KPIs and measure outcomes that actually drive decisions.
  • Design & Build Data Pipelines: Gather, consolidate, and transform data from multiple sources (Azure SQL, Mongo, third-party APIs) into a clean and organized data warehouse.
  • Data Modeling & Semantics: Define and implement best-practice models for analytics, ensuring consistency and clarity in our data.
  • Visualization & Reporting: Create dashboards and reports for customers, internal teams, and partners for either standalone consumption or via an integrated experience with our SAAS and mobile applications.
  • Set the Technical Vision: Collaborate with engineering, product, and UX teams to ensure our data approach supports immediate business needs and scales for the future.
  • Establish Data Quality & Governance: Own processes for data validation, stewardship, and overall reliability to ensure the dashboards and data are accurate and can be trusted.
  • Enable Self-Service Analytics: Provide frameworks and guidance so stakeholders can explore and answer their own questions.
  • Ongoing Improvement: Monitor, tune, and refine data pipelines, dashboards, and analytics processes to ensure performance, reduce friction, and support future growth.

Required/Desired Experience:
  • Proven Data Chops: 3-5+ years working in data engineering, BI, or analytics engineering roles-strong SQL skills are essential
  • Tooling & Frameworks: Hands-on experience with modern data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery), data tools (DBT, Airbyte, Fivetran, Stitch), and data visualization platforms (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, etc.)
  • Strong Analytical Mindset: Able to translate raw data into meaningful insights, factoring in data quality, completeness, and end-user needs
  • Excellent Communication: Equally comfortable talking to engineers about data structures and indexes as you are talking to stakeholders about insights and driving action
  • Ownership: There are no missed opportunities with

Helpful, But Not Required Experience:
  • Familiarity with SQL Server and Mongo as key data sources
  • Experience embedding analytics into SaaS or mobile apps
  • Aviation industry background or a passion for flight
  • Understanding of machine learning and AI tools and concepts

Compensation:

The salary range for this role has been established at $90,000-$120,000 annually. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, skills, prior work experience, competencies, and geographic work location. The above salary range represents the Company's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Travel Requirements:
  • Occasional business travel may be required, up to 10%.
  • If local to Kansas City, two days per week in the office is encouraged
  • Travel for 1-2 company events per year
  • Potential for additional travel for on-site with customers or other events
