Job Description

Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer 3 will be responsible for researching, designing, and testing mechanical products, equipment, and systems. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, along with the capability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to ensure high-quality mechanical designs that align with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Research, design, develop, manufacture, and test mechanical devices, tools, and engines.
  • Analyze customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to assess feasibility, cost, and timelines.
  • Diagnose equipment failures and provide recommendations for maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Assist in the development of structural designs using engineering software and tools.
  • Collaborate with power conversion application engineering teams to establish architecture and requirements for power electronics components and systems.
  • Develop design concepts and detailed 3D models for low-voltage power electronics inverter and converter systems.
  • Work closely with the Cat India team for mechanical design finalization and release of prints.
  • Engage in supplier collaboration, selection, and development, including limited travel as required.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in power electronics packaging technologies.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Associate's degree in a related field with 10+ years of experience OR
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of experience OR
    • Master's/Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years of experience
  • Technical Skills:
    • Product development experience (design/analysis)
    • Ability to make engineering drawings and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical reports
    • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Self-starter with technical leadership capabilities
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Team player with attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with CFD & FEA analysis tools
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, with an emphasis on electric drive systems
  • Experience with quality tools including FMEA, APQP, BIQ & PPAP
  • Familiarity with NPI Issue Resolution Process

Work Environment & Interaction:
  • Office setting with 10% lab work
  • Frequent collaboration with two other Mechanical Engineers on multiple projects
  • Support for local builds
  • Supplier interaction and limited travel involved
