About the role: PMAT is actively seeking a highly skilled and motivated Machine Learning (ML) Engineer to contribute to the development and implementation of machine learning solutions in support of naval intelligence operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing the capabilities of naval intelligence systems through innovative and cutting-edge technologies. Daily tasks can vary from hands on keyboard to technical discussions, including but not limited to, creating ML training pipelines in Jupyter, evaluating model performance, working with platform engineers to serve ML models as containers, or providing subject matter expertise in discussions with senior management.

Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and address the Navy's intelligence challenges using machine learning.
- Design, develop, and implement machine learning models and algorithms for naval applications.
- Conduct data pre-processing, exploratory data analysis, and feature engineering to ensure high-quality input data.
- Collaborate with data scientists and domain experts to analyze data and integrate machine learning solutions into existing systems.
- Conduct thorough testing and validation of machine learning models to ensure accuracy, reliability, and robustness.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in machine learning to propose and implement innovative solutions.
- Work closely with engineers to integrate machine learning models into operational systems.
Provide technical expertise and contribute to the development of long-term technology strategies within the Department of the Navy.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
- Experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Passion for staying updated with the latest advancements in ML.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Proven experience in developing and deploying mathematical models or machine learning models in real-world applications.
- At least 10 years' experience as an active or reserve Navy Intelligence Officer
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Familiar with cloud native architecture and software API design
- Experience with distributed computing and parallel processing.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with data pipelines and automation tools (e.g., Airflow, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins)
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles in the context of machine learning applications.
- Previous experience working with Project Overmatch or other JADC2 programs
- Conditions of Employment
Education and Certification Requirements:
- Master of Science in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or Statistics
- Certificate in cybersecurity, such as CompTIA Security+
- Certificate in cloud architecture, such as AWS Solutions Architect - Associate
Citizenship and Clearance requirement:
- Must be a US Citizen
- May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
Must have an active Secret security clearance.
Travel:
- This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous
- United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be
- required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
