About The Opportunity

The Risk Management team at Canada Guaranty is responsible for guiding the prudent growth and evolution of the mortgage insurance portfolio through the effective use of analytics, credit policy and an enterprise risk framework.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Credit Policy, the Manager, Credit Policy will be responsible for guiding the prudent growth and evolution of the mortgage insurance portfolio through the effective use of policy and underwriting execution. This position will be responsible for the evaluation and development of credit risk policies and procedures.

The role will encompass identifying current and emerging trends and associated risks. The successful candidate will be innovative and creative with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a thorough understanding of mortgage lending. This is a business-critical position with high visibility and regular contact with senior and executive management in all areas of the organization.

In this role, you will:
  • Manage a comprehensive set of internal credit policies, external underwriting guidelines, and insurance products that represent reasonable risk to the organization while meeting the needs of our customers
  • Develop and maintain strong strategic relationships with lender partners to effectively manage credit policy discussions and related requests
  • Develop strong strategic relationships with counterparts throughout Canada Guaranty to understand the scope and implications of new products, guidelines, programs, policies and procedures
  • Act as the primary support person for the Sales, Underwriting and Operations teams for risk requests with the ability to prioritize these requests from various departments
  • Manage the lender onboarding process, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Maintain a keen awareness of industry and market trends related to Canada Guaranty's management of credit policies and an in-depth knowledge of the organization's portfolio dynamics


Essential Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of experience in Risk Management, Portfolio Risk Management or Underwriting Management
  • College Diploma or University degree
  • Extensive knowledge of mortgage lending and the mortgage insurance industry, with an emphasis on underwriting/risk policy
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize information and present clearly and concisely at the Executive level
  • Familiarity with mortgage policies, products, systems, risk rules, and models
  • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects and priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Exemplary analytical skills with attention to detail


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingualism in French and English would be a major asset
  • Graduate level education
