**Anticipated Vacancy May 1, 2025**
This posting is for an Engineering Manager II that serves as the Division Maintenance Engineer for Division six. Responsibilities include management and supervision of Division 6's maintenance operations including County Maintenance Units, Bridge Maintenance Units, Equipment Units, Roadside Environmental Unit, and the Division Traffic Services Unit. The position is responsible for planning, evaluating, establishing and monitoring maintenance programs, goals, budgets, staffing, etc. Performs advanced engineering calculations; provides engineering technical assistance; directs and assists in the development and implementation of various Division maintenance programs. Position provides a high level of customer service while responding to inquiries from the public, elected and local officials, NCDOT management and news media, etc. regarding DOT policies and procedures, Division projects, plans and proposed work. Collaborates with Division Construction and Division Project Development Staff on the design and construction of new roadway and bridge projects. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Division Engineer.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts, maintenance practices and theories used in maintenance of all roadway assets and experience planning, developing, designing, scheduling, tracking and completing projects independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in performing engineering analysis and preparing technical, statistical, and managerial reports.
  • Experience supervising, motivating, counseling, and training other engineers and technicians.
  • Experience collaborating with others in finding solutions to controversial or sensitive matters that establish precedents.
  • Experience reviewing engineered plans and details to determine compliance and compatibility with construction and engineering principles and maintenance standards, codes, designs, and statutes.


Additional Expectations:

This position requires the ability to independently perform engineering analyses and prepare technical, statistical, and managerial reports. The employee must have the ability to communicate well both orally and in written form. The position requires the ability to maintain multiple projects and complete difficult assignments within specified time requirements. The employee must direct the work of other engineers, apply engineering principles to difficult or complex engineering problems, and make sound recommendations and decisions. Employee must be able to manage and direct the annual budget for the reporting units. Prefer experience with SAP and BEACON. The selected candidate will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum of (7) seven years progressive engineering experience including (4) four years of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications

May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors
