Loudoun County Department of Family Services seeks a dedicated and experienced professional for a Youth and Family Support Services Specialist position. The successful candidate will join the Family Engagement and Preservation Services Program within the Department of Family Services which envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. We support individuals and families in the community to live their best lives while advocating for those most vulnerable and respecting their right to self- determination.

Job Summary

The Youth and Family Support Services position provides educational and support services for those families with youth that present with high-risk behaviors in the County. This position, depending on assigned area, provides family support and case management services; facilitates multi-family groups using evidenced-based curriculums; develops and implements topic specific community education groups and workshops for parents and teens; provides crisis intervention as needed; documents cases; and works with other departments on related programs.
Primary responsibilities:
Conducting individual/family intakes and assessments
Providing case management, coordination and support services to families referred to program
Collaborating with colleagues from other government departments and agencies, schools, juvenile court personnel and community service providers
Documenting timely case notes and family assessment plans
Working collaboratively with teen and parent volunteers to facilitate evidenced-based curriculums for multi- family groups
Developing and implementing topic specific educational and skill building groups/workshops for identified youth in the community
Training other staff, volunteers and interns, as needed
Coordinating group and family events throughout the year
Making referrals to other service providers, as needed
Assesses high risk teens and families for participation in program services.
Recommends services appropriate to client and family as needed.
Provides case management and case coordination for families participating in the program.
Facilitates multi-family educational and skill building groups for families with youth exhibiting high risk behaviors using evidence-based curriculum to improve individual and family functioning.
Advocates for clients' needs. (Advocates to address clients' physical, medical, educational, recreational, financial, and other needs within scope of available services.)
Develops and implements Individual Family Plans (FSPs) for those families participating in program services. (Develops and implements Family Service Plans to identify goals related to family relational improvement; and documents outcomes.)
Develops and implements topic specific educational and skill building groups/workshops for identified (teen/parent) populations based on community needs.
Completes progress notes after meeting with program clients. (Ensures progress notes are accurate, complete, and submitted according to policy and procedure; notes documented within 48 hours of each meeting.)
May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field; OR, a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience in a human services area.

Preferred:

Experience facilitating educational and skill building groups.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Pass pre-employment background checks to include criminal, credit, CPS/APS, and DMV. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification). Hold or obtain certifications such as CPR if required for assigned position. Obtain specific training such as CPS/Foster Care/APS state training as required or desired for assigned area
Bi-lingual skills in Spanish and English preferred.

At times, the Department of Family Services staff must respond to community and or emergency needs caused by inclement weather, natural or human-made disasters, etc. Therefore, in these very rare instances, all DFS staff must be available to work beyond the normal workday to include nights, weekends, and holidays, as required to perform functions of the position and/or situation. In addition, you may be required to work at an alternative worksite(s) within the County to perform duties that support the operational needs of the department.
