RN Wound Care

BASIC FUNCTION: The Wound Care Nurse will be responsible to apply the nursing process in care of patients with acute and chronic wounds, fistulas, pressure ulcers and other states of impaired skin integrity. The Nurse will provide consultation for prevention and treatment of patients with wounds for physicians/practitioners, nursing staff, patients and families in acute care, skilled/long term care, and outpatient services. The Nurse will provide staff education in wound care prevention and management and will demonstrate leadership in collaborating with other interdisciplinary team members as well as provide current evidence based best practices for wound care.

Facility built in 2020 with 4 exam rooms, close proximity to medical/surgical unit. Two nurses serve 15 patients on average for along with 2 Medical Assistant and one provider available or actively working.

SALARY INFORMATION:

• $32.50 - $44.91 Dependent on Experience
• 10% differential in addition to base rate salary
• Compensation may vary outside this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current RN license with state of Colorado BON.
• Must possess and maintain a current Wound Care Certification or within 6 months of hire.
• Must maintain a current BLS.
• Minimum 2 years experience working in a wound care environment such as wound clinic, long term care, or acute care preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Direct patient care- The Nurse must have comprehensive knowledge of wound assessment, documentation, wound healing processes and current standards of wound care practice in order to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate appropriate wound care treatments. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
• Consultation- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, interdisciplinary team and the public. Provide resources related to wound care and other skin integrity issues. Assist in developing and implementing protocols used in prevention and management of patients with wound care needs. Collaborate with other interdisciplinary staff in planning and implementing wound care prevention and treatment.
• Staff Education- The Nurse will provide staff education relating to best practices for wound prevention and treatments. Update staff on policies and procedures related to wound care practices.
• Leadership/Management- The Nurse will maintain certification through continuing education programs. Assist in interdisciplinary team meetings as needed. Work with materials management to analyze wound products to assure quality and cost-effective strategies of products used for skin and wound care. Knowledge of organization policies, regulations and procedures to administer routine nursing care. Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and written. Must be proficient within 6 months of hire in current electronic health records use. Excellent interpersonal skills required.
• Research- The Nurse will utilize current research in maintaining wound care policies, procedures and protocols. Collaborate with quality improvement to identify, develop, implement and evaluate programs related to wound care prevention and treatment issues as needed.
