Job Description:
- Determine the suitability of specimens and orders by verifying patient demographic information, receipt documentation, and recognizing and troubleshooting erroneous, inconsistent, and special orders.
- Organize and prioritize workload to provide necessary and requested services by the medical staff while avoiding repetition of work and incident reports as documented in records.
- Perform routine and special procedures accurately according to policy and procedure manuals; evaluate results for correctness and recognize abnormal test results, performing appropriate problem-solving procedures in a timely manner.
- Provide age-appropriate care by following established technical protocols based on the patient's age, using appropriate instrumentation, and reporting and interpreting results based on normal ranges.
- Respond to emergency situations quickly and provide the required services promptly.
- Assist other employees in troubleshooting specimen problems and errors and with the performance of workload to meet established turnaround times.
- Communicate any quality control problems, exceptional patients, to the appropriate supervisor and/or professional staff as they occur and maintain documentation of all clinical information by correctly entering data into the established record-keeping system.
- Knowledge of laboratory operations, ability to operate a PC, and other equipment including cell washers, blood analyzers, gamma cell irradiator, microscopes, centrifuges, water baths, and agglutination viewers.
