Who We Are
Golden Queen Mining Co., LLC (the "Company") operates a gold and silver, open pit, heap leach operation on its Soledad Mountain property, located just outside the town of Mojave in Kern County in southern California. The Project uses conventional open pit mining methods and the cyanide heap leach and Merrill-Crowe processes to recover gold and silver from crushed, agglomerated ore.

Familiarity with mining terminology is a plus.
This is a safety sensitive position. As the Sr Geologist, you report to Chief Geologist, and are responsible for managing a team of samplers and Ore Control Geologists. Sampling staff must be expected to deliver accurate samples on time and of a consistent quality. Sampling must be carried out in all weather conditions and around operating equipment at times. Managing the safe operation, and accountability of the staff, while meeting expectations is the upmost importance.

What You Do
- Monitor and evaluate the exploration model periodically in accordance with re-modeled and updated reserves, grades, rock types and sections in relation to long- and short-term targets and goals. Report on, communicate and supply insight and recommendations to a mine planning team as well as upper management.
- Manage reporting and data related to ore grade, tonnage, and dilution. Including reconciliation of benches, individual mining areas and stockpiles, creating detailed comparisons between both the production and exploration model reserves. Produce mining efficiency reports and data relevant to the investigation and mitigation of common dilution factors and miss-classification.
- Continually evaluate, report, and provide recommendations on any/all issues related to dilution, including interference of historical mining (addits, stoping, shafts), blast movement, over excavating/under excavating, material loss on free faces, density studies, discrepancies/inaccuracies within topographic surfaces to create and sustain a constant and minimal dilution rate to aid in mining efficiency.
- Manage a team that is responsible for the upkeep of production blasthole model and drill hole database to ensure proper quality control techniques, training, and procedures in a fashion that properly secures data integrity and accuracy.
- Provide data analytics to mine operation data and collaborate with dispatch department and planning team when necessary.
- Manage team regarding ore control and maintain grade control systems software.
- Supervise technical staff, providing quality control, task, and developmental training. Manage staffing needs, uphold team dynamic and safety culture, constantly striving to maintain adherence and improve standards of procedures. Focus on constructing an atmosphere that reduces employee turn-around rate, enabling each employee to be content and render higher and longer rates of production.
- Manage void detection, estimation, analyzation, and reporting, including safe deployment of cavity scanner hardware and software practices to supply data and safety insight as well as possible solutions.
- Monitor and manage blast movement by providing recommendations to drill and blast department, including ideal blast initiation points and types of initiations while creating a blast profile using rock type, lithology, historic and updated movement measurements, and locations in relation to permanent walls and pit edges etc.
- Monitor and manage a leach pad for changes in movement alongside the survey department, by reviewing survey data and planning requirements on data collection.
- Oversee a team to ensure they review rock type and lithology for ore and waste zones. Reporting, logging, and communicating of such findings to aid in the recovery of gold and silver, as well as to enhance and support any other production or aggregate operational needs.
- Facilitate and oversee proper analyzation and quality control techniques of blast hole sampling. Frequent implementation of quality tests, such as duplicates, cone and quartering, quadrant sampling, as well as keeping proper maintenance and stock on all tools, including proper sampling scoops, on-drill ring sampler units, poly bags etc.
- Maintain an accurate and auditable record of any/all files relevant to grade and tonnage estimation in which can be easily accessible to any/all relevant parties, including planning department, management, and outside sources/services.
- Constantly re-evaluate and strive to enhance ore estimation and target selection processes while incorporating changing gold prices, resources, and other economic factors as well as physical and mechanical limitations.
- Provide technical support to improve engineering/planning, on site laboratory, survey, drill and blast, dispatch, mine operations as well as upper management.
- Maintain and endorse company safety and environmental standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
- Experience in Ore Control principles in open pit mining.
- Experience in managing a team and completing annual performance reviews
- Comfortable in the review and updating of Resource and reserve block models
- Familiar with common software tools such as MS Office products and data presentation
- Use of AutoCad, Leapfrog and Minesight software is beneficial
- Comfortable with public speaking in small groups to communicate ore controls in weekly meetings
- Good understanding of blasting principles and shot movement relating to dilution
- Willingness to work outdoors and audit procedures and QAQC of sampling products
- Excellent communication skills verbally and in writing.
