Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Systems Operations Engineer to join our team supporting our RUSHMORE program. This position would be based in the Aurora, Colorado area at Buckley Space Force Base.
This role performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Development of products and CONOPs for the 24x7 operation of a mission-critical system
Troubleshooting of real-world operations issues
Trending of operational data and simulation of products and CONOPs prior to transition to operations
Returning systems to an operational state, ensuring the health and safety of the systems while maximizing mission availability
Review or develop standard operating procedures that are executed real-time on the operational system for standard events and anomaly recoveries
Report project status as required for all recurring and non-recurring efforts.
Work under minimal direction and independently determine and develop an approach to solution.
Create/update agile stories to document work planned and accomplished
Performs technical analysis of integrated system, prepare comprehensive system level evaluations to include new capability and continuous regression checkout
Generate/respond to comprehensive discrepancy reports; continuous follow-up coordination with developers to solve complex problems associated with real-time processing software
Work with team on coordinating and managing SW and proc installs
Conduct review board meetings
Facilitate meetings and coordinate with various integration teams from factory
This position requires being onsite and does not support remote or hybrid work.
Basic Qualifications
Must have a current or active Top Secret/SCI DoD security clearance with CI poly at time of application.
Bachelor's degree and 8 years of relevant experience; 6 years with a Masters; 4 years with a PhD. An additional 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Willingness to work a non-traditional work week that will include occasional 12 hour shifts and weekends
Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
Ability to support after hours and on weekends as needed.
Familiarity with LINUX RHEL8
Must be available for up to 10% travel to fielded systems in CONUS and OCONUS locations to perform baseline installations/integrations and customer exercise support efforts
Preferred Qualifications
Prior operations and/or systems engineering experience
Experience working in a geographically diverse team and matrix organization
Experience with Atlassian tool suite (e.g. Confluence, JIRA, etc.)
Leadership experience and abilities
Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, with internal or external customers, in written and oral formats.
Experience in maintaining smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network, software, and system engineers, PC desktop technicians, project managers, end users, and customer and IT management.
Higher degree in a STEM-related discipline
Solid writing skills and use of Wiki pages and Sharepoint sites for documentation
Salary Range: $124,900.00 - $187,300.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
