Job Summary

Responsible for the evaluation, planning, directing and administering of physical therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician. Administers treatments and physical agents as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. Essential Functions

Reviews patient medical record and physician prescription to determine required treatment. Plans and administers medically prescribed treatments with the goal of restoring function, relieving pain and preventing disability. Performs a complete patient assessment. Develops or revises treatment programs accordingly. Administers manual exercises to improve and maintain patient's function. Operates treatment devices in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and SVH policies and procedures. Instructs and assists patients in performance of various physical activities and use of supportive devices. Evaluates patient response and performs follow-up as required. Documents patient treatment, response and progress in patient medical records and field charts in an accurate and timely manner. Admits, discharge and transfers patients as per established policies and procedures. Directs work activities of Physical Therapy Assistant. Coordinates patient care with the appropriate services. Identifies and acts appropriately in code situations per established protocols. Assists co-workers, patients, vendors, physicians and others in a respectful and courteous manner. Attends and actively participates in all department, team and/or committee meetings. Consistently demonstrates ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs. Minimizes non-productive time and fills slow periods with activities that will enable you to meet the future needs of SVH (education, organizing, housekeeping, and assisting others). Organizes job functions and work area(s) to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frames. Complies with SVH Safety and Infection Control policies and procedures. Utilizes proper body mechanics and protective equipment (PPE). Reports and/or resolves all safety issues/incidents in a timely manner. Complies with all SRH policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned by Director or Designee.

Education

Graduate of an accredited school of Physical Therapy. New graduates may apply. Must maintain education hours based on the requirements outlined by applicable regulatory agencies (e.g. DNV, etc.).

Experience/Training

Internship experience in an acute care hospital is preferred for new graduates.

License/Certifications

Must be currently licensed or eligible for licensure, prior to hire date, in the state of Washington. Must obtain active and unrestricted Physical Therapy license at date of hire. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare provider BLS certification is required.

Other Skills

Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Wide range of acute care diagnoses including orthopedic acute care. Work setting flexibility with professional skills provided in the school, hospital environment, or nursing home setting. Will have to show ability to dictate reports.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
