The Senior Scientist in IVD is responsible for providing strong technical leadership and expertise in the area of in vitro diagnostic assays. This position is responsible for work on projects and customer support related to the In Vitro Diagnostics business unit of Surmodics. The position also develops and manages projects and reports progress therein with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
Laboratory Bench Work (70%)
Work is completed independently, and implementation requires individual initiative and judgment
Assignments are broad in nature requiring creativity and ingenuity
Drives implementation of new or complex existing technology in department
May lead a specific component of project(s)
May serve as technical lead on project(s)
Drafts technical reports, proposals and/or procedures
Assists with general lab housekeeping
May act as lead on internal and client-funded project(s)
Acts as a technical mentor in specific field of expertise
Has demonstrated leadership skills
Customer Interaction/Technical Support (20%)
Interacts with customers and presents data/results to customers - following external communication guidelines
Assists with troubleshooting activities for internal and external project(s)
Demonstrates understanding of organization's business model
Travel as related to maintaining customer relationships and business development opportunities (5-10%)
Provide technical assistance to customers on Surmodics IVD products
Work directly with clients on running feasibilities and development projects
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of Surmodics' technologies
Become familiar with customers' product lines to identify potential applications for the products within the IVD business unit
Problem Solving/Innovation/IP (10%)
Contributes to non-standard approaches and solutions to technical challenges requiring in-depth evaluation
Contributes inventions, new technologies, designs/techniques regarded as momentous advances within the
specialization of the department
Writes and files invention disclosures
Proficient at solving problems in a timely manner
Able to draw solutions from a wide range of experience
Ability to independently develop methods
Creates correlations between data sets in order
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in biological sciences or equivalent degree preferred, B.S. and M.S. considered with relevant level of experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in the IVD industry or equivalent relevant experience in product research or product development (concentration on the biological sciences including biochemistry, molecular biology, or formulation chemistry)

$88,500-$123,600 USD
