GENERAL SUMMARY
Roland Park Country School is seeking a full-time PreK-4th Grade Physical Education teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching PE, as well as health and wellness. Key applicant characteristics include a collaborative spirit, an enthusiasm for working with young people, and the ability to foster and nurture a learning environment that is engaging and accessible to a broad and diverse range of students. The position includes two seasons of coaching at the Middle or Upper School level, for an additional stipend.

The Lower School Physical Education Teacher is responsible for creating an environment that fosters, promotes, and develops an understanding of the relationship between healthy body function and exercise; which motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student's ability.

In accordance with Maryland's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, we are committed to providing transparent wage information for all posted job opportunities. The salary range for this position is $54,000 - $107,500 annually. Compensation is determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and the essential basics of individual, dual, and team sports to students, PreK-4th grade
- Incorporate regular, age-appropriate health lessons into the PE instruction
- Collaborate with department colleagues in PE and Athletics to plan and implement a balanced physical education program
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior based on the Responsive Classroom method
- Evaluates the academic, physical, and social growth of students, keeping appropriate records, including attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities, as necessary
- Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress
- Takes the lead on planning, organizing, and directing the annual LS Field Day
- Participate in co-curricular events, programs, and activities
- Coach two seasons in the Middle or Upper School
- Supervises students in and out of classroom activities during the assigned working day
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor's or master's degree in exercise science, physical education, or a related field
- At least two years of demonstrated excellence in teaching
- Knowledge of current best practices in physical education
- Experience developing and/or teaching a health and wellness curriculum
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- A commitment to culturally competent teaching
- Growth mindset, flexibility, and openness to collaboration
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Commitment to developing student athletes through coaching and mentoring
- Experience as a rec/club, middle school, and/or high school coach
- Experience creating differentiated learning opportunities to optimize student outcomes
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position that involves sitting at a desk, working on a computer, standing, reaching, and bending for prolonged periods of time
- Physical agility to stand, kneel, walk, push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, crouch, reach overhead, and respond to emergencies
- Occasional-to-frequent physical mobility and manual dexterity sufficient to move about the classroom, ascend/descend stairs, maneuver in tight spaces in classrooms, bend at the waist, use office equipment, and keyboarding.
- Ability to exert/lift up to 10 lbs as frequently as needed to move objects or class materials
- Must be able to see and hear with acuity on a continuous basis
WORK CONDITIONS
- The Lower School PE Teacher is a full-time, exempt position
- The Lower School PE Teacher is expected to be available to work during all hours as may be assigned by the School, as well as during other hours for events and activities
- Occasional extended hours may include evenings and weekends, as business needs require
- The Lower School PE Teacher is expected to perform their job duties on campus, unless otherwise permitted by the Head of School
