Job Summary
The Senior Director, Transportation is responsible for overseeing the implementation, execution, and continuous improvement of transportation management systems, as well as leading the strategy, direction, and operations of domestic line haul and non-asset-based transportation.

Zone 2: $200,000 - $250,000
This job is also eligible for participation in an Incentive Plan with a target payout based on eligible compensation and corporate/individual performance goal attainment.

Job Summary
The Senior Director, Transportation is responsible for overseeing the implementation, execution, and continuous improvement of transportation management systems, as well as leading the strategy, direction, and operations of domestic line haul and non-asset-based transportation.
Primary Objectives
- Develop and direct the execution of strategic initiatives, business plans, budgets, and operational goals.
- Lead the successful implementation, execution, and optimization of transportation management systems (TMS).
- Drive internal development and planning to continuously improve operational capabilities, scalability, and agility.
- Drive innovation and performance enhancements while ensuring regulatory compliance and safety.
- Manage, lead, and develop geographically dispersed teams.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of transportation management system (TMS) implementation, from planning and execution to optimization.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all transportation and dispatch operations.
- Develop, manage, and maintain training programs and materials for the TMS.
- Lead cross-functional teams to ensure smooth rollout and adoption of process changes in freight transportation.
- Direct the strategy and execution of domestic line haul operations, optimizing routes, schedules, and cost structures.
- Oversee non-asset-based transportation operations, including managing third-party carrier relationships and contract negotiations.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless freight movement and customer satisfaction.
- Monitor and improve dispatch operations, ensuring efficiency, responsiveness, and adherence to company policies.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives by identifying operational inefficiencies and implementing data-driven solutions.
- Establish and track KPIs and performance metrics for freight transportation and dispatch operations.
- Direct and monitor compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT and FMCSA guidelines.
- Spearhead training programs to upskill teams and reinforce best practices in transportation management.
- Manage multi-year budgeting, cost control, and financial performance of transportation functions.
- Lead crisis management and problem resolution for transportation disruptions or carrier performance issues.
- Stay informed on industry trends, technology advancements, and best practices to maintain competitive advantage.
- Evaluate and develop knowledge, skills, and abilities of staff and management teams to ensure alignment with service delivery requirements and effective execution of applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Execute and measure contracted services and present performance data in a manner that promotes customer retention and growth.

Education
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related field or equivalent combination of coursework and experience in a directly related field required
- Master's degree preferred
- 10+ years' progressive experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management required
- 5+ years' experience in a senior manager role with direct responsibility for budgets and staffing required
- 4+ years' experience managing complex projects through planning and execution required
- Extensive knowledge of principles, strategies, operations, and processes in transportation, warehousing, distribution, and global supply chain management.
- Proven track record of leading enterprise-wide strategic initiatives and high-impact projects using Agile, Lean, or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Deep knowledge of industry regulations, including DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and international trade compliance.
- Expertise in leveraging Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and ERP platforms to drive operational excellence.
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, cost control, and ROI-driven decision-making.
- Exceptional leadership and stakeholder management skills to influence executive teams and cross-functional departments.
- Advanced ability to analyze complex logistics data, optimize key performance indicators (KPIs), and implement scalable solutions.
- Strong technical aptitude with demonstrated proficiency at an intermediate level with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
