Job Summary
The Executive Director for Housing and Residence Life (HRL) at the University of Texas Arlington (UTA) is an upper-level administrator in the Division of Student Affairs and a member of the Vice President of Student Affairs' leadership team. This position provides overall leadership for a comprehensive student housing and residence life program geared towards establishing a healthy and comfortable residential community, with an emphasis on academic success and social engagement to enhance personal development for students. This position will also have oversight of conference housing and summer camps.

Job Summary

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the executive leadership team of the Division of Student Affairs. Provide inspirational visionary leadership and oversight for the University's comprehensive Residence Life, Student Housing, Residential Learning Communities, Conference Housing and Summer Camps/Programs, Marketing and Communications, and Information Technology, as well as supervision of staff and departmental budgets.
- Work collaboratively with faculty, University staff, students, and departments; engaging in ongoing visioning, strategic planning, and assessment in support of the residential student experience. Communicate regularly and effectively with University staff and with key campus partners.
- Work closely with Campus Operations on maintenance of residential facilities. Collaborate with Campus Operations, the Division of Business and Finance, and other campus stakeholders to develop short and long-term capital investment plans to ensure facilities are properly maintained and enhanced to support strategic priorities.
- Enhance the Residential Learning Communities (RLCs) program at UTA in collaboration with relevant stakeholders across campus. Ensure personnel and programming for RLCs supports and achieves the purpose of these communities within the broader residential mission.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the members of the senior leadership within Academic Affairs to strengthen academic programming and intellectual culture within University Housing.
- Allocate human resources and oversee all aspects of programs and services to students in housing. Develop and implement an efficient and effective staffing model, ensuring that individuals with the needed knowledge, skills, and abilities are in place to support strategic priorities. Oversee all personnel-related matters within the department in accordance with University policy, including hiring, termination, promotion, professional development and training.
- Strengthen the administrative policies and processes of UTA Housing and Residence Life including but not limited to housing assignments, marketing materials and training programs.
- Be responsible for a curriculum in residence life that advances the mission of UTA.
- In collaboration with the Vice President for Student Affairs and their appointed staff, develop the annual budget, setting appropriate targets for revenue and expenses, including annual contribution to capital reserves.
- Regularly analyze local housing market data and establish competitive housing rate structure and contract provisions.
- Promote Residence Life and Student Housing. Provide subject matter expertise and leadership within student affairs and across the campus community on known and emerging issues relevant to promoting student health and success in a residential setting.
- Explore ways to increase summer housing offerings and more UTA-sponsored camps along with the Coordinator for Summer Camps and Conferences.
- Oversee and strengthen assessment activities within UTA's Housing and Residence Life program.
- Perform related and other duties as assigned to meet department, division, and University goals and objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, or closely related field.
- Eight (8) years of housing and residence life administration experience in positions of increasing responsibility to include large scale capital projects management and development, facilities management, renovations, and revenue stream development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ed.D./Ph.D in Higher Education Administration or related field.
- Five (5) years demonstrated experience in budget development, financial management, and resource management.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, programming, and student life development.
- Successful record of linking residential programs and academic programs, leading to strengthened residential environments.
- Experience and knowledge of facility environments with outsourced and internal maintenance and custodial functions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal/professional relationship skills.
- Knowledge of overall higher education industry, factors which impact institutions externally as well as common internal dynamics.
- Ability to manage complex personnel, financial, and technological processes.
