Job Purpose
The Senior Commercial Loan Officer will originate and manage commercial loan relationships, with a primary focus to identify and sell commercial loan products to members and consumers in the community. Loan types will include large and complex real estate loans for both owner-occupied and non-owner-occupied properties and C&I lending. The Senior Commercial Loan Officer will take applications for commercial loan requests, review member financial condition, and assess the member's ability to re-pay the loan. The Senior Commercial Loan Officer will be responsible for developing credit memorandums in partnership with underwriting to be submitted for approval, work with team members to ensure loan documentation and closing accuracy.

Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned to meet business needs)
- Use interpersonal and communication skills to generate self-sourced referral business, leads, and relationships with our branch partners, existing members, and external business partners.
- Serve as a resource to all departments in all matters related to Commercial Lending. Serve as point of escalation for questions related to complex commercial lending scenarios.
- Engage in consistent, substantial efforts outside of the office to generate sales including, without limit, meeting with potential borrowers and referral sources and holding presentations regarding commercial loan products for the public and targeted groups.
- Engage in promotional activities such as distributing fliers and pamphlets, cards, and commercial loan product information at community and commercial real estate industry networking events to increase the loan officer's sales and positively represent the credit union brand and products.
- Interact extensively with members throughout the loan process, providing exceptional member service throughout the interaction.
- Interview commercial loan applicants and obtain all the necessary documentation to review and provide the loan decision.
- Educate membership/applicants on the different types of commercial loans offered, the terms and interest rates, and the documentation needed to be considered for a loan.
- Submit commercial loan requests for approval based on established guidelines in loan policy.
- Make alternative recommendations to borrowers who are creditworthy but do not qualify for the loan they requested; continually seek to cross-sell products that best serve the membership.
Ensure loan agreements are completed according to policy; calculate and explain payment schedules.
- Analyze credit, income and supporting business documentation; compare for accuracy with the borrower's statements. Correct inaccuracies and determine the correct loan options for the borrower based upon the applicant's present situation, future plans, and preferred loan product.
- Ensure all declined loan requests are properly documented for review.
- Comply with updates and changes to loan programs or procedures; suggest changes/enhancements as appropriate.
- Introduce borrowers to the treasury management team to deepen relationships and secure deposit opportunities.
- Maintain all correspondence and documentation through the commercial loan underwriting and decision process and file all related documentation in appropriate information systems.
- Address questions and resolve disputes with members using knowledge of loan underwriting process and legal requirements.
- Monitor portfolio quality.
- Perform other work related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Management or related field required.
- Minimum four years of experience originating commercial real estate loans.
- Professional Designation is required (CCIM, etc)
- Intermediate level experience with computers and software applications including Microsoft Suite.
- Must maintain a positive professional image and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel to different branch locations, various training or networking events, and member meetings; the use of a personal vehicle may be necessary for this task.
