Description:
The Controller will direct all of the company's accounting functions and operations including establishing and maintaining the organizations accounting principles, practices, procedures and initiatives, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, production of periodic financial reports and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of reported financial results. Also ensures that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and reporting standards.

Duties & Responsibilities
Primary Basic Duties:
- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
- Oversight of A/P & A/R team, including contract billings, lien releases and relationships with our customer base.
- Provides backup to all payroll processing duties and final review.
- Ensures that monthly bank reconciliations are complete, and debt payments are made.
- Maintains the chart of accounts.
- Maintain a system of controls & segregation of accounting duties.
- Recommends and oversees any new technology upgrades to improve overall accounting efficiencies.
- Manages outsourced functions and annual external audits.
- Regular review and analysis of the costs associated with equipment maintenance, depreciation and operations costs. Ensures accurate allocation of equipment cost to various projects.
- Tracks equipment utilization rates to ensure optimal use and identifies underutilized assets.
- Leads internal projects while balancing regular responsibilities and deadlines.
- Review and oversight of union and non-union weekly payrolls.
Reporting:
- Issues timely and complete monthly financial statements.
- Coordinates the preparation of audited financials.
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.
- Provides cost management reports, WIP Analysis and various other metrics..
Compliance:
- Coordinates the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit, State Audit and Union Audits.
- Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Management:
- Recruits and selects candidates; conducts performance management and career development; provides compensation recommendations and employment termination decisions for accounting staff.
- Leads and mentors the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Participates as a proactive, contributing member of management team.
Education, Experience & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or related field.
- Minimum of 10+ years in a Controller role with 15+ years of accounting leadership experience. CPA preferred.
- Has the functional and technical accounting knowledge and skill to do the job at a high level of accomplishment.
- Accuracy, attention to detail and mastery of general accounting practices.
- Understanding of prevailing wages, union contract language, and certified payroll requirements.
- Understands the business sufficient to know how it works and how policies, practices trends, technology and information impacts business success.
- Strong ability to prioritize actions and decisions
- Excellent problem-solving and adaptable skills with a strong work ethic, excels in a fluid environment and navigates ambiguity to drive solutions.
