Job Description
Job Title: Infection Preventionist
Profession: Registered Nurse (RN)
Specialty: Infection Prevention
Duration: 13 months
Shift: Monday through Friday
Hours per Shift: 8:00 AM to 4:30 or 5:00 PM
Experience: Minimum of two years clinical experience in an acute care hospital in an infection prevention position is preferred
License: Current license with the State Board of Nursing
Certifications: CIC Certification
Must-Have: Previous experience in infection surveillance, prevention, and control is preferred
Description:
The Infection Preventionist performs under the direct supervision of the Director of Quality Management.
The primary responsibility is to assure that policies and procedures are developed and implemented to prevent and control infections.
The Infection Preventionist has the oversight authority for cooperating with departments in performance improvement activities.
Other responsibilities include surveillance, analysis, reporting, and recording, as well as setting standards and evaluating compliance for practices associated with the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections.
Collaborates with clinical and non-clinical leaders and managers to implement prevention and control measures.
Employs organizational strategies in a balanced approach that produces meaningful contributions to each element of the Formula for Success.
Requires the promotion and adherence to the organization's established Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Quality Management Director.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of current regulatory standards and requirements.
Demonstrates ability to analyze infection prevention data and identify improvement opportunities.
Demonstrates ability to conduct compliance rounds to monitor compliance and provide feedback to managers.
Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with managers and staff.
An individual with a broad knowledge base and/or job experience related to the application of epidemiological principles and infectious disease is preferred.
Knowledge of concepts of sterilization, disinfection, sanitation, and adult education principles and practices related to patient care is beneficial.
Effective decision-making and communication skills are required.
Required Education: Associate or Bachelor degree in nursing.
Preferred Education: Not applicable.
