Job Description:
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the healthcare organization.
- Maintain, interpret, and adhere to facility policies and procedures.
- Ensure continuous delivery of high-quality nursing services by implementing evidence-based practices and standards.
- Develop, implement, and revise nursing policies and procedures to maintain nursing guidelines.
- Recruit, select, and orient qualified nursing personnel.
- Attend educational workshops, review professional publications, participate in webinars, establish professional networks, and join professional organizations to maintain professional and technical knowledge.
- Ensure nursing personnel comply with licensure, certifications, professional development, and regulatory standards.
- Design and implement performance improvement projects to enhance care quality and patient/family experiences.
- Organize problem-solving and effective communication systems for departments and act as a liaison between ancillary departments and medical staff.
- Interpret, support, and execute procedures and policies as designated by the Administrator.
- Ensure the Nursing Services Department adheres to State and Federal rules and regulations concerning resident care delivery.
- Maintain a Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program, including various audits and an Antibiotic Stewardship program.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the QAPI program by observing trends and direct plan corrections accordingly.
- Attend and direct quarterly QAPI meetings in conjunction with the Administrator.
- Ensure medications, treatments, and care plans are administered as ordered in collaboration with the RN Care Manager.
- Assist with communication during State Surveys and write plans for correction.
- Coordinate nursing service functions and activities with other departments.
- Meet with the RN Care Manager daily to discuss resident conditions and nursing care delivery.
- Assist RN Care Manager in assessing resident conditions and making decisions on medical interventions.
- Evaluate nursing care delivery by making daily rounds.
- Attend resident care planning conferences and coordinate service provision with other healthcare providers.
- Notify physicians of needed visits when necessary and involve the Medical Director as needed.
- Develop and maintain personnel policies for recruitment, orientation, in-service education, evaluation, and termination of staff.
- Conduct interviews, review job descriptions, and ensure complete employee files and adequate orientation.
- Ensure staff is adequately supervised and educated according to facility QAPI trends.
- Maintain written staffing plans and supervise delegated staffing responsibilities.
- Work as a Charge Nurse on the floor as necessary, ensuring staff performs duties professionally and efficiently.
- Act as a Grievance Officer and conduct employee performance evaluations, counseling, and disciplinary actions.
- Support change processes and provide input as necessary.
- Determine Nursing Staff capacity for resident admissions and assist with intakes and admission decisions.
- Maintain adequate supplies for nursing care delivery and establish priorities efficiently.
- Develop a budget in collaboration with the Administrator and remain within budget or communicate additional needs.
- Interact professionally with interdisciplinary team members and residents' families.
- Participate in educating staff, residents, and families on healthcare practices and policies.
