Responsibilities
Duties:
Assist in the design and development of roadway plans, including geometric layouts, plan and profile, cross-sections, pavement design, and intersection design study plans under the guidance of senior engineers. Perform engineering tasks related to transportation facilities, contributing to the design of traffic control systems and signalization. Prepare engineering reports, conduct calculations and analysis, and produce technical documentation for design projects. Receive instructions from the Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer and keep them informed of workload, project schedule or scope changes, or additional services. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate roadway designs with other project components. Review design calculations, drawings, and specifications as part of quality control processes. Analyze information and data for routine design tasks. Research code requirements, design options and document findings. Assist or participate in preparation of business proposals. Participate in non-design engineering activities as needed such as limited construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection. Maintain professional knowledge by attending educational workshops; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies; and attend Project Manager training to begin to develop project management skills. Responsible as a member of the design team for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards. No Hire/fire authority.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Must have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. Must have experience in transportation engineering. Must have experience in the use of engineering civil design packages including AutoCAD, HCS7, MicroStation, and ArcGIS. Experience must also include studying and analyzing field reports, roadway construction plan preparation, and preparation of construction cost estimates. Telecommuting is permissible up to 2 days week per within reasonable commuting distance from the Chicago, IL TranSystems Office.
Illinois Wage Range: $86,736 to $99,853.
