Position Responsibilities
The incumbent is expected to perform the following functions that the company has determined are essential to this position:
Product Development:
- Act as the product owner through entire product lifecycle, utilizing strong planning and organization skills.
- Serve as a key contact person to internal/external customers and cross-functional teams and executives, including reporting out project status and risks. Cross-functional teams may also include global design, validation and manufacturing groups.
- Provide advanced support to Project Leaders in the creation and execution of project timelines and budgets.
- Assign and review team members work products to ensure project deliverables, quality and cost targets are met. Depending on the scope of development, engineering work products may include customer and internal product specifications (System, Hardware, Software), DRBFM (Design Review Based on Failure Mode), DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), FTA (Fault Tree Analysis), component and product drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), DV/PV test plans, test equipment specifications and training manuals.
- Support Project Leaders and Engineering staff to ensure they have the resources to lead internal/external project reviews and can manage design change requests through Change Control Board review and approval processes.
New Business Development, Advanced Product Planning and Sales Expansion:
- Lead the establishment of product roadmaps for the North American market, product and technical trend analysis, as well as government regulations and customer communication.
- Mentor and support Project Engineers in the plan creation and execution of competitive benchmarking analysis.
- Ensure Product teams can assess our product's technical and cost competitiveness and make product improvement ideas based on the results.
- Ensure Project Engineers can effectively assist Sales Planning team(s) in the creation and/or explanation of product technical materials in the support of RFI/RFQ activities.
- Lead advanced development activities including the demonstration of proof of concepts, demo vehicles, etc. as part of pre-RFI/RFQ activities.
- New business development may include proactive strategic planning and execution in cooperation with global tech center(s). Activities can include resource/budgeting, manpower allocation, project roles and responsibilities and long-term capability transfer for key products or technologies.
- Other tasks and duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
Essential Skills and Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in automotive product development, testing and validation.
- Demonstrated experience in managing Engineering teams and projects.
- Track record for the continuous improvement of Engineering team organization, roles and responsibilities, position requirements, member capabilities/skill map, engineering tools and processes.
- Familiar with one or more lifecycle management and collaboration tools (i.e. IBM DOORS, JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint, etc.).
- Knowledge of automotive bus protocols (CAN/CAN-FD, LIN).
- Basic proficiency with data acquisition, measurement and testing tools (i.e. Vector CANalyzer/CANoe/VT System, digital multimeter, oscilloscope).
- Strong interpersonal, communication and documentation skills and the ability to work within diverse and multicultural teams.
- Knowledge of technical problem-solving skills, tools and processes (i.e. FTA, 5 Why, Fishbone, 8D).
- Proficient in MS Office suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
Beneficial Skills and Experience
- Development of power closure systems (i.e. sunroof, slide door, tailgate, liftgate, frunk) or advanced power seating systems (i.e. memory seat, pneumatic seat, power folding seat).
- Basic knowledge of C/ C++ programming
- Familiarity in model development using MATLAB/ Simulink/Stateflow or other modelling tools
- ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434
- IATF 16949 Quality Management
- Japanese Language
Education/Training/Certifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering. (Master's degree is beneficial)
Travel Requirements
- Approximately 20 %
- Must be willing and available to travel to such locations and with such frequency as is necessary and desirable to meet business needs.
