The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is hiring an Engineering Assistant 3 to support the Procurement Sprint Team-a dynamic group focused on accelerating the delivery of vital construction projects across the state. What You Will Be Doing:

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Assistant 3 to support the Procurement Sprint Team within the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF). This position provides a technical foundation for construction procurement strategies that improve the timely delivery of infrastructure projects across the state.

You will help guide procurement planning and document development for projects at the Alaska International Airport System, Division of Facilities Services, and other programs that require well-coordinated efforts under tight timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the development and review of construction procurement documents and alternative delivery methods (CMGC, Design-Build, IDIQ, Progressive Design-Build).
  • Conduct feasibility reviews and provide technical input to support compliant, well-structured procurements.
  • Coordinate with procurement officers, legal staff, and engineers to ensure documentation is clear, complete, and aligned with construction needs.
  • Participate in fast-track project reviews and provide technical oversight where time-sensitive contracting is required.
  • Help standardize procurement content and templates for technical sections and specifications.
  • Use Artificial Intelligence tools to improve accuracy and efficiency in drafting and reviewing procurement documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET.
AND
Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Or:
A bachelor's degree with a major in a branch of engineering from an institution not accredited by ABET.
AND
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
AND
Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitutions:
Four years of any combination of ABET accredited postsecondary education in engineering, architecture, or land surveying (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) and/or engineering, architectural or land surveying experience may substitute for the required degree.

Graduate study in engineering or architecture may be substituted for the required experience (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month).
